It was thoroughly entertaining, hosted (I think) by Vic Reeves and Rowland Rivron, and the previous year's "A-Z of TV" was equally good.
Back then, old clips were a major rarity...

I have most of it on VHS, and it's Palin as a seedy nightclub owner in front of slash curtains, with guest hosts Alan Bennett (talking about old TV shows that were wiped), Alison Steadman (in various roles - 50's BBC presenter, 60's commercial actress, 70's social realist drama character, 80's yoof TV presenter), Patrick Barlow (in his pastiche National Theatre of Brent actor guise, recreating the classic documentaries of James Burke, Jakob Bronowski, Michael Jordan, Kenneth Clark et al on a golf course in Hendon), Andy Kershaw on music shows etc.
Some fantastic moments - the disaster sequence was my first ever glimpse of the titles from "Survivors", so atmospheric with all those passport stamps and the dramatic theme music...
It went on for about two-and-a-half hours, and unlike that Zoe Ball crap the other night, or the two previous Graham Norton-fronted clip shows that spawned it, it had some real gems in it....
