Yes.
But let us in on the secret, Captain. What makes your life so very fascinating. We all crave lessons in being interesting.
I *like* Coronation Street.
Well I've never watched it. I was a big fan Of Eastenders in the good old days (Den & Ang) and it's never interested me very much since. Also I was a Brookside fan, but lost interest eventually. I have dabbled in Family Affairs and Hollyoaks.
Hollyoaks is great. Starting off as an attempt to portray teenage life as realistically as possible, it failed when everyone realised teenagers had dull, shit lives. It then magically became a sort of "Junior Brookside" and became the ratings success (This is Channel 4) it is now. If you watch it, you'll be hard pressed to find any realism - hence the fun of the soap.
Hence the 'leisure centre' affair.

I never said my life was fascinating, I'd just rather watch television programmes with at least some substance.
I would agree that most soaps lack substance, but would have to defend Coronation Street - it has been one of the consistently best written serials on TV for a long time. It's witty, and moving and generally well-acted. It has its flaws but it is still head and shoulders above any soap I've seen (although I would concede to Jon that the 'golden era' of Den/Ange EastEnders came pretty close. Now, however, it is total shite.)
Neighbours is fucking excellent.
And I mean that, too.

Good for you. But chat about last week's brilliant Munich Olympics documentary or Family History, the unsung C4 series about the Carpenter family from Nottingham which finished a fortnight ago, has been notable only by its absence on this forum.
There are plenty of other brilliant examples.
Any suggestions why this is the case?
