Sympathy please... Posted Wed Sep 6 21:42:28 BST 2000 by subbes

...I have to go to the dentists, have a funking general anaesthetic and have two teeth taken out.

Two teeth that aren't even visible, ffs.

And I am very very very scared.

Oh, and just so this is relevant: I actually did enjoy I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue and still do, whatever you may say about it.

I had £80 worth's of work done last year, which involved removal of 7 teeth(I have none on my bottom right hand side now) & some fillings.

I also know some one who had £200 worth of work done as well (It involved his 'bite' apparently)

Commiserations, my friend.

*punches kingsiZe*

I'm just very scared to have a general anaesthetic. I wouldn't even let a surgeon do anything under general, now I have to have someone who becaume a dentist because he flunked out of medical school administering one? I'm completely neurotic that I won't wake up.

And yes, the recent decision to ban UK dentists from using general anaesthesia after a spate of deaths hasn't helped.

grr. why couldn't my milk teeth just fall out rather than still being here? Grr.

There's always one isn't there!

Yes, and generally he deserves to die very slowly and painfully.

Come here, kingsiZe.

unfortunately your death under anesthetic tomorrow will be relatively painless because your heart will just stop. shame that.

Kingsize - you're coming on here and insulting the regulars when no-one actually cares what you have to say... who do you think you are, Jim Yoakum?

subbes - I know what you're going through. I had to go to Guy's Hospital, London Bridge on the Saturday of August Bank Holiday weekend with chronic toothache, and they discovered....a nerve dying underneath the filling. I won't give you the details, but I promise you that you *will* feel better afterwards. Even if they just give you some amoxycillin tablets for a strict five-day course, the worst side effect (assuming you're not allergic to penicillin or similar) will be posting semi-mad ranting messages to TV and comedy websites about the apparent uselessness of most contemporary popular culture.

I made all that up, that was for a friend of mine...ahem.

Anyway, fingers crossed for you. Dentist is no fun.

Make the most of any opportunities for comic misunderstandings while you're there

eg. when you are shown into the waiting room and someone says "Take a chair", pick one up and attempt to walk out with it.

Keep doing this all the time and someone will eventually punch you in the mouth and the problem will be solved naturally! Well, that's what happened to me.

Posted By subbes on Fri Sep 8 22:32:47 BST 2000:

Um.

I know I'm in America, but you still have to wait for surgery. My teeth are coming out in a couple of weeks or so, allowing me ample time to get myself worked up and scared about the forthcoming procedure - hence why I posted. If anyone has any information on wisdom teeth removal or advice, I'd be very grateful to hear it. So I can stop panicking.

It's a laugh. I had it done under local anaesthetic, so I could kep an eye on things. They did one side of the mouth firts, and the other side 2 weeks later. Though I only had 1 tooth coming through. After, I had swill my mouth with hot salty water about 4 times a day, but that's no trouble.

Come to think of it, it must be getting on for 10 years since I had them done. I've still got the teeth somewhere.

*comdey drumroll*

not bad for someone who's about to have their teeth pulled.

trust me, the general will be better - my brother had four teeth removed under local and it still hurt. They can't give yo too much if you're not ging out completely, so the pain can still be there sometimes.

trust me, general anesthetics are no problem - had one done on me and I'm fine... *ahem*

Just don't go into the light. Haven't you read the Tibetan Book of The Dead?
Seriously though, I have seem to have about 12 teeth too many and apparently may have to have a couple removed, so I sympathise.

Thanks.

Still, at least you must find it easy to open bottles with your teeth. If you lose one, you've got another three ot replace it with.

Like a shark, you mean? That would be quite good, actually. Sadly my teeth are just a bit crowded and not cool at all. There was a kid in the year above me who had *2 complete rows* of teeth. He failed his A-levels and they brought him in next year to frighten us - presumably on the basis that we would subliminally associate not studying with having mutant teeth.

Let me guess, this was in Cumbria, right?

Was there someone in your school who was nothing but ears? Bet his parents were related.

Throughout my life, I've had about five teeth removed for various reasons and it's honestly not that bad.
Having a bloody socket for a few days is the worst bit.
Honestly.

Er, isn't that completely normal? One on the top and one in the bottom half of the mouth. So you can bite things with them.
