When's the new Sotcaa update? Posted Sun Sep 3 02:45:19 BST 2000 by McGinty

And that means more than one article

Actually, they've been secretly updating loads of things in the "hidden area" (hidden behind the Flash loading times, that is).

No, I was being needlessly sarcastic about the time it takes to load the front end of the site with my crappy (but free) net access.

It can take aeons on a T1 connection as well. All this unnecessary Flash stuff is a pain to be honest, especially on a slow machine.

How about ditching Flash on this site? It's more of a hindrance than anything else.

It's done to stop people downloading the stuff and redistributing it, i think. Je pnse que Rob is trying to avoid the Nashian quandary of having someone taknig your content and selling it to others.

Or something.
Or what.

Understandable, though it's still fairly easy to download most of the stuff if you know what you're doing. And it's a necessity in some cases - there's no way I would've watched the Blackadder pilot, for example, if I couldn't have it stored locally.

That can't be why the navigation frame's a Flash jobbie though, surely?

Well it is part of the reason, it's not perfect and it is possible to get round it (as you say)...

Flash is also used because it makes the site look nice and the files sizes can be quite small (although there not atm) - I'm going to optimise them for the next update, so hopefully that will improve things...bear with it for a little while longer.

Of course, it's bad design, but I won't tell anyone if you don't.

So the closure came at short notice then?
