To be honest we have mentioned this subject a lot on here, but it surely needs to be sorted out. Im just surprised YTV havn`t been ticked off by the ITC for not promoting regional values on the stations they are controlling. The name is not used before local news bullitins now and at the start of the day its never heard ie "good morning and welcome to todays programs" instead of something like " good morning and welcome to programs from Tyne Tees". Anyway no point in whinging, it isn`t going to change anything. Lets just see what happens next week and in the near future.

I'm sorry to whinge, but presentation for Granada Media is run by... Granada Media. Based in Leeds, but not run by YTV regional. Honestly, please believe me, I'm not making this up...

I have heard that Leeds does not currently have the facilities to do simultaneous announcements. Hence references to ITV and not TT, YTV, Granada or Border.

Yes that's right, YTV don't get a mention either, it's not a conspiracy against Tyne Tees or anyone else.

Well, the cynical would say that if YTTTV, Border and Granada Media hadn't sacked all the Manchester, Newcastle and Carlisle announcers (at fairly minimal saving in the grand scheme of things) they would not find themselves in this mess.

The cynical would also say that they were managing it back in December, and that the technology has not gone away. They might even say that the reason they aren't anymore is that it's complicated and the Leeds-based staff aren't bothering to make it work.

I, however, am not so cynical as to say such things. So I'll say nothing.

Well actually I will say something. For GOD'S SAKE, YTV, Granada Media or whoever you're calling yourselves this week, hire some people. Hell, put me through some elocution lessions and I'll do the Tyne Tees version (ahem ;D). SURELY it can't cost that much? Don't have an on-duty announcer during the day if the cost is the issue (many stations do this). If you want one broadcast centre in London eventually, and still retain the names, then you're going to need 15 announcers to do the job eventually anyway, so why not make a start now?

Most of the time there is no need to have announcers on anyway. During the mornings its just Tricia and This Morning so why announce it, its the same ever day. Similarly in the afternoon, most of the programs are the same ever day, they could use an odd recorded announcement maybe here and there. Think of the money saved, daytime TV doesnt get large audiance figures. The money saved on this could then be devoted to a couple of prime time announcer devoted to each station to be on duty between say 7pm and 12midnight every night of the week when there are large audiances. This could come from Manchester Newcastle etc ie be seperate or it could still come Leeds and be piped through, either way it would surely save money in the long run as they wouldn`t need to be continually upgrading technology. Border used to do something similar to this until recently, except the prime time announcer was in vision. The rest of the time there was an occasional announcer, but mostly just the ident and jingle ran off before programs. I think Tyne Tees may have also been similar to this under YTV prior to C3NE as YTV announcer did YTV live while TT either heard nothing or a recorded announcement especially during the morings. Correct me if Im wrong.
Weekends would be similar too, except maybe during the afternoon where more generic feeds be piped to each station, but still have a prime time announcer for each station.
At present YTV or Granada Media seem to have too many announcers. What I`ve just described would work wouldn`t it surely! Looking on some TV sites I have seen some examples of Granada`s presentation during the nineties and compared to what they get now its supurb

Border are still trading on the London stock exchange, check teletext on c4 to see. This means they are still owned by Border TV and no takeovers have gone through yet. So why does it have announcements from YTV? Granada doesnt own the station. Is it to save money???? probably money controls everthing these days, just look at football

Border is close to going down tthe pan just like Tyne Tees. YTV and Granada are not much kop these days either, your right when you say its all about money, the viewers dont seem to count nowadays

Yes, but it is part of Capital, surely?

I'm confused.

Still ,I remember the days when I would here good old Andrew Burns with his scottish accent telling us "You're watching Border, ytour local station, part of the ITV network"

Andrew Burns was announcing on Border until fairly recently wasn`t he? It might be an idea to contact Border and find out what is going on regarding the takeover as they are still trading as Border TV, maybe its collapsed

Just before todays Lunchtime News, there was aa regionally based announcement, including the Tyne Tees name.

Have YTV fixed their recording gear in time for tomorrow?

JUST BEFORE THE NEWS AT AROUND 645 THIS EVENING, THE GRANADA HEARTS IDENT WAS SEEN FOR A SPLIT SECOND BEFORE THE NEWS STARTED, WHEN MY STATION IS YORKSHIRE TV? IT LOOKS LIKE THE TECHNOLOGY IS JUST AS BODGED AS BEFORE

Its difficult to explain, but the system tries to find a common source when it's showing something. For network stuff this is usually the Granada feed.

They'd probably showed their ident before the news, and the Yorkshire and Tyne Tees cut into Granada a fram too early.

Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Surely if they're going to bring back proper continuity announcers they may aswell return in-vision continuity too, that's my view. But I hate Crapton's (Carlton's) continuity at the mo, for example before Alright on the Night 11, which I hadn't seen before the announcer said smarmily "and this kid's gonna get a rocket." It's the same announcer every time he also has the habit of ruining the soaps by virtually telling us what's going to happen before the show starts. To be honest I'd be glad if Carlton just called themselves ITV, but then again most people probably want Carlton gone. :)

I was in Boston once and the local UPN station carried about 20 seconds of a trailer from the New York station before switching to the local trailer. Talk about botched continuity! Of course, US networks never used pre-show announcements anyway...

I don't see why ITV has to be regionalised anyway. OK, news and sports can have regional variations, but surely it doesn't make sense for different regions to carry separate late-night movies and series. Might as well just have one national ITV service and have done with it.

In vision wont ever come back. It would be brilliant if it did but I just can`t see it now, it was supposidly out of date thats why it gradually was scrapped. I think the last region to scrap it was Border last November. Q uite why it did is a mystery as it was completley independent from YTV or Granada but took on its announcers anyway. I cannot understand why it would do this in favour of `this is ITV at he heart of your region`

Carlton regions do still have their own announcers at least, even if the London one is a wanker

Its just during the day especially prime time when each are of the country needs to be different as most people will be watchin then

In-vision continuity is still popular in Northern Ireland. Ulster have it on prime time at weekends, and BBC Choice NI have it every night.

As for regional programmes, YTV was regional for much of last night showing various minority programmes, rather than the ITV night-time service.

Yes, and dragging Tyne Tees along with it.

Why ON EARTH would people in Newcastle be in the REMOTEST LITTLE BIT interested in a Jobfinder service exclusive to the Yorkshire region (which is shown on TT).

The question then is what are TTTV regional doing about it?

And I'm sure TT viewers in York, Harrogate and elsewhere could have got something out of it.

Hmmm... they say it has nothing to do with them and it's all down to the programme schedulers in Leeds. They agree with me that it would make more sense to just put out Nightscreen like the rest of the network.

>And I'm sure TT viewers in York, Harrogate and elsewhere could have got something out of it.

Problem is, there aren't any people in York or Harrogate watching Tyne Tees, or very few anyway.

Actually, I know some YTV staff living in Harrogate who say they can only get Tyne Tees.
