HTV - Management Buyout? Posted Tue Aug 29 22:20:42 BST 2000 by Dan F

Today's Times reports that the former directors of HTV are planning to buy the station from Granada. They will use Channel TV as a vehicle for the purchase.

Sounds good to me. Let's keep Carlton's grubby little hands off HTV. I wish the guys the best of luck.

Anyone agree?

All I've seen is a teletext page reporting this; but I share your sentiments Dan, and wish the HTV folk best of luck.

(Laughs at Carlton).

I heard that Channel had been taken over by ex-HTV management. So is Channel going to take over HTV? would that mean the long-standing link between Channel and Meridian (and TVS before that) coming to an end?

Personally, I think it will make easier for SMG or someone else (including Carlton) to get HTV.

I know of the people that could buy HTV, and they won't give in to Carlton easily. They hate Carlton just as much as we do. They liked ITV as it was in the 1970's and 80's. I wouldn't be suprised if HTV and Channel will start using on-screen continuity again.

I wonder would the group would be called? HTV CHANNEL? CHANNEL HTV? I really hope this takeover happens. Oh, and by the way, it's not a rumour. They really have announced that they are interested.

The thought of Channel taking anyone over would have been laughable until this story came out. Now I really hope it will happen as it will no doubt put some regional qualities back into a small part of ITV at least and stop Carlton getting bigger. Good luck to them

I doubt HTV will change that much, given how small Channel is - if anything I presict Channel will change more.

It just occurred to me - Channel is the only ITV region which can be sailed around completely. Thought I'd share that fact with you all.

I suppose you can sail around Ulster. You'd just have to do the Republic too.

If you apply that logic, you could sail around Border too - if you sail around the rest of Great Britain and the Isle of Man too!

Okay, you could sail around UTV without sialing around another ITV region at the smae time.

Yes, but can't you see it in Lincolnshire? You can certainly see it in Lincoln.
Does it reach the coast anywhere?

(And, as you're bored of reading, I used to pick it up occasionally in the Isle of Man)

I think the signal from Waltham extends across to the Lincolnshire coast, although this is officially YTV's territory.
