1) Richard Curtis - 2 November 1989

Post Blackadder Goes Forth, almost nothing of note. First Mr Bean has two amusing sketches, but that's it. Vicar Of Dibley has stupid characters being stupid, and smug cameos from people who should know better. Four Weddings is just about watchable but nothing like as good as The Tall Guy. Notting Hill is, without doubt, the worst film I paid money to see.

2) Jasper Carrott - the moment he thought up The Detectives (1990ish)

Since when we've had about 14 bastard series of it, and what little stand-up he's done has been mediocre. Shame - he was pretty great before that.

3) Angus Deayton - 1992ish when someone wrote "TV's Mr Sex"

Consider the fact that Radio Active was the best radio comedy of the 80s - no arguments. Since Have I Got News For You has made him extremely well-known, he has put together a pointless series on happiness (1995), voiced countless unfunny adverts, and hosted the sporadically but frankly sub-Nordenesque Before They Were Famous.

I meant "sporadically amusing" in that last sentence. Sorry.

To the best of my knowledge, Carrott didn't think up the detectives - Steve Knight & Mike Whitehall (the arse-holes behid 'Carrot in court, or whatever the fuck it was called) did!

Channel Four. When do people reckon Channel Four finally, utterly, irretrievably lost it?

1) Steve Coogan, when he appeared on TFI Friday two years ago trying to drum up business for his piss-poor "Man who thinks he's it" effort. Added to which, he spent most of the interview doing impressions. Oh dear.

2) Dawn French - when she started doing Murder Most Horrid.

3) Ben Elton - when he presented the Brit awards in 1996. And when he agreed to the former Conservative prime minister's talentless daughter in law touring in the play Popcorn. Not to mention The Beautiful Game...

4) Bob Dylan - when he found God and released "Shot of Love". I know he's not a comedian, but there you are.

As The Fall once nearly said, Dawn French and Ben Elton have always been crap, regardless of the look-back bores. Bob Dylan found it again on Infidels, Oh Mercy and Time Out of Mind so he doesn't count. Stephen Fry lost the ability to make decent TV when he started writing books. Think about it.
