Central cakes/globes Posted Tue Aug 22 11:40:41 BST 2000 by not so newboy

there was a pine globe, a globe with balls falling into it, a globe in neon light and a globe in glass with a greenish background.
what else can you remember? and what direction do you think the central globe idents would have taken if they were still used now?

A cake featuring live action, but overlaid with the rainbow colours.
Each segment would have something different in it, representing the theme of the following programme.
If it was comedy, you could have a door being knocked (knock, knock jokes) a banana skin etc.
If it was sport, different balls or bats etc.
If it was a midlands programme, scenes of the midlands.

Or maybe they'd go back to the original globe, only have different variations with the rainbow colours reflecting on the left hand side.

For example: A bubble, a goldfish bowl, a glass Earth globe (for serious stuff), a glitterball..

The original networked animated globe split open and glowed. I was very disappointed when they replaced it with a boring fade-in. I thought the animated pie sort of thing they later used on the end of programmes was totally over the top, but very much in the tradition of the ATV logo which was probably the most OTT of all.
