Some points about the new logo-
1. it looks very like the early 1990's one.
2. two of the letters have joined up together again, does that mean in a few years well back back to the classic logo with all the letters jing up.
3. Why does the logo always have to have a T T T V thing going on?
anyway looks better than the current one
Yawn! That's hardly pushed back the boundaries of graphic design, has it?
Are you sure this is real NF? It just looks like someone's joined up the bottom two letters of the 92 ident. I have been told by a member of staff at Tyne Tees that the new ident is *different*, you know, *not the same*? If this is genuine then their key philosophy here is to keep the YTTTV logo as it is.
As RB says, *yawn*. Bet the North East Tonight logo is the same as well....
And if YTT graphics really wanted to go all retro on us (the 92 logo's T and V very nearly merged) why didn't they just go back to the *real* TT marque, rather than this sanitised rubbish YTV lumbered on the NE in 1992?
This is the logo used by Tyne Tees in the job adverts in todays Guardian. In last weeks Northern Echo with the same job advert they used the YTTTV corporate logo- so i doubt they would change the ad-design if the logo wasnt the new one.
NET came from Teesside tonight with the sport being broadcast from a small studio in Newcastle...can it realy take 2 weeks to build a new set.

The sports pres was sitting next to Pam in the Bellasis studio... Did the north get their own news bulletin from Newcaslte?
I spoke to someone at Yorkshire/Tyne Tees presentation department this morning and they told me that Tyne Tees will only get a new local ident which will 'probably look like the current Yorkshire local ident but with a TTTV logo on it' so there.
Many moons ago Tight Knees...sorry, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire were bith part of Trident Television which used a completely different logo on exported programmes.
And then they split up. And then they merged again. Plus ca change....

Well if this is the case Damian wants his knees capping, as it was he who started this all off again.
I don't think this is the new logo. TT have been using the 1992 ident in promotional material ever since C3NE died. I don't think this is any different.
However it would make sense if it were the new one because then YTV would not have to get their finger out and modify the generic idents. Which begs the question, why effing well bother?
However, it does sound like YTV presentation hasn't got a clue as usual, since if there is to be any new ident it will have been done by now.

Sounds to me like the YTTTV corporate logo was an error -- Tyne Tees regional is more or less run as a seperate little bit of Granada Media now, the rest of what would have been TT is still Yorks-Tyne Tees, effectively meaning Yorkshire TV as we all know.
>NET came from Teesside tonight with the sport being broadcast from a small studio in Newcastle...can it realy take 2 weeks to build a new set.
Yes, if you are effectively bringing in an external company to fit all your new graphics equipment...
Hmmm...
No, this is nothing like the ident still I've seen (or described for that matter!).
The new logo is for Tyne Tees as a channel (and presumably TTTV Ltd.) YTTTV's logo still use the 92 look for TT as printed in the newspaper. Incidentally, YTV Ltd. are still using the typeface abandoned in 1989!
The still I've seen was printed in Granada Media's in-house magazine, so I would expect it to be official!
In terms of layout it was similar to YTV's (TTTV logo screen left, angel of the north screen right) but they have very different looks.
If that is not the new logo then its a very poor attempt to draw the 1992 logo- one the TTT's were more rounded fonts, not square, they were thicker and the T and V were not joined up. Its suprising that you say the 92 logo is still used on promotions, i've never seen it. Tyne Tees always use the newest logo on sponcerships etc. Is this yet another YTV cack-handed up professional job, cant even get a corporate logo right...very very poor PR. Hells teeth I work for a Local council and we get told off if we mess with our corporate image design rules.
as for the ITV Hearts I place a big bet that they are not dropped on Tyne Tees on Sep.4 th and that the new YTV style ident is just used before NET etc. And that Tyne Tees make no big alterations to the NET set (as they never have done in previous relaunches) and that the Teesside studio remains untouched by human hand.
> YTTTV's logo still use the 92 look for TT as printed in the newspaper.
So... will the YTTTV logo change? From what I have heard the logo change is fairly substantial, so it would be strange to leave that unchanged...
> Incidentally, YTV Ltd. are still using the typeface abandoned in 1989!
Yeah why is that? In fact, the sizing is different to the 1985 one, so I think they're effectively using the 1982 logo... bizarre.... Doesn't YTV still have the elongated 1967 one on the side of the building as well?
> If that is not the new logo then its a very poor attempt to draw the 1992 logo.
It is rather, isn't it?
> Its suprising that you say the 92 logo is still used on promotions, i've never seen it.
Back of buses, some TV ads....
> Hells teeth I work for a Local council and we get told off if we mess with our corporate image design rules.
Yup, my company is the same (Sema Group). We can get our hands slapped for calling it Sema, SEMA Group, Sema Groupe (the French part). All documentation must be Zapf Humanst font, 12-pitch, with a Sema Group Logo at least 4cm and less than 8cm in diameter... I'm surprised YTTTV/Tyne Tees/Granada Media don't have these same rules...

Teesside is getting a facelift, but not much. Colour schemes are changing a bit, but the basic studio remains as it is. Not sure about Newcastle. As for the hearts, well they'll have to change all 40-odd ITV idents, too much of a job I feel, especially as they will be going in the next 12 months anyway, to make way for Granada Media branding (Graeme Thompson's words...)
I like it.
YTV are notorious for getting their own logo wrong. Although the chevron is a trademark, there are countless different versions of it in print and dotted around the YTV studios.
The chevron used in regional idents and newtwork endcaps at the moment is a slightly different shape to all previous versions!

>The chevron used in regional idents and newtwork endcaps at the moment is a slightly different shape to all previous versions!
Yes, I'd noticed that. And I'm worried I'm so irritated by it. And it's become more and more yellow over the years.
Especially since 1969 :-P
IS GRANADA GETTING NEW IDENTS???
Please I need them...Granada...I know you read this board - GET A NEW IDENT(S)
>IS GRANADA GETTING NEW IDENTS???

Probably ... eventually. I think it depends upon whether the Tyne Tees ones replace the generic ones or merely supplement them. If they are replacements, then you can bet that Granada will follow very quickly (as if this does happen YTV will certainly kill off their generic idents at the same time or very soon after).
Granada will be branding all it's stations under the GMG banner in the next 12 months -- Anglia and Meridian included. At that time new Granada idents will come on the scene, if they haven't already, because graphics departments won't just go back to an old ident.
How can GMG do this - the ITC were very clear that (in the north east at least) They were awarding the licence "To TTTV, not Granada" - surely they won't actually do away with the names will they?

Actually is was Graeme Thompson, Director of Programming at Tyne Tees who told me that. All this means is that some sort of message like "part of the Granada Media Group" or somesuch will appear in small letters at the bottom of the screen. Station names will remain. Even when ITV is one company. Granada has been very definite about that.
GMG press information for week starting September 9 still has old TT
TV logo
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this type of thing to change. Some GMG material still uses the Channel 3 Yorshire logo last seen in 1998.
>I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for this type of thing to change. Some GMG material still uses the Channel 3 Yorshire logo last seen in 1998.
Nothing like using your brand identity properly is there?
On the ITC's Website, the TTTV logo is the Channel 3 North East one.
So, we've had a 'sneaky peak' at the new logo, it's basically a modernisation of the current one, with the spacing corrected and the font looking more modern, and for the first time Tyne Tees gets a "device" to go with the logo, in the form of a semi-circle of circles (solid ones) from NW to SE, similar to sky's "swoosh" above and to the right of the y. The NE-facing one being larger than the others. Quite clever really, and really a rather nice twist on our old friend.
If the idents are good, this could be one of the best TT logos yet in fact. The colours seem to be pastel shades of purple, pleasant but a bit mid-90's, but we won't hold that against it yet.
The North East Tonight sequence is set to closely match this scheme, which means if Teesside doesn't get rid of the dark-glass backdrop it will not look right at all.
Also, I can't see the generic ident fitting in with all this... we'll see.
Not long to go now is everyone excited
