Al, you fool! Ainsley Harriott can't 'do' Nixon, can he? (Rumour has it he does a mean Eisenhower, though.)
Choice observation for stating the bleeding obvious must go to Theakston for his, "They used to put rubbish in bags with Ws on the sides". (The Wombles.) Yeah, thanks for that. Let's hope BBC Talent can find more of his sort this year...
Cracking start to 1975 preview, btw: David Essex's Gonna Make You A Star. (Er, that was 1974.) Bit of a lean year, by the look of the preview, so maybe Carla Lane, Stuart Maconie, Jamie and Ainsley can pick apart my first day at school.
Not as good as last week's on the whole, though: what has Jeremy Spake got to do with 1974?
Don't know the song, sorry Al.
It could also have been better without Jeremy Spake. As could everything.
What is the point of the I <heart> 197x series? Is it nostalgia, in which case why do they explain what the items are, or is it meant to be informative, if so suffering lack of depth and triviality of subject?
ANSWER ME!
The song is "Feels Like 1974" by Robyn Hitchcock, once of The Soft Boys.
That version seemed to be from a Mark Radcliffe session, rather than the official recording on the "Storefront Hitchcock" soundtrack LP (Warners 1998).
You should be able to get it easily. It contains the fantastic line "Python's last series in The Guardian read, 'the stench of rotting minds'".
The rumour of "I love 1975" containing an episode of The Goodies is greatly exaggerated - we get an episode of that long forgotten sitcom The Good Life instead.
Ratings pleaser, anyone?
"greatly exaggerated"? I said it was in the offing, and a set of ten was under consideration. Check the old thread.
Complain to Jane Root.
"greatly exaggerated" was an inappropriate use of words typed in a hurry and in some frustration as I was hoping there'd be at least one episode of The Goodies on 1975 night, and hopefully not the one with "that bloody kitten". But it is not to be, certainly through no fault of yours. I do blame Ms Root.
I'm looking forward to your Goodies Guide though!
'I love 1975' will of course feature hilarious footage of the Fall Of Saigon.
