Edinburgh Comedy with Jayne Middlemiss Posted Fri Aug 18 12:16:02 BST 2000 by Ailie

(Taken from TV listings)

Tonight, 11.20pm, BBC2

Jayne Middlemiss presents a showcase of established talent, including Bill Bailey, Ed Byrne and Sean Lock, as well as newcomers from the cutting edge of stand-up comedy performing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Why?!

Couldn't they get someone *remotely* involved in comedy or possibly (gasp) Scottish to do it?

Obviously it's meant for the masses, rather than the serious comedy fan, but it's still grating at me....

Isn't she from Newcastle? That's practically the same, isn't it?

Well it's *close* but she'd say she's English, which means that we'd have to treat her with contempt (for historical reasons).

Yes, well it *is* remote...

Please don't get me started on that again..

Gail Porter. Agent Smith out of The Matrix.
Same voice.

Try it:
"Your species is a virus, Mr Anderson ... I'm Gail Porter".

Well, as I thought, I didn't think much of Miss. Middlemiss...
Far too much girly giggling and simpering for her to have any credibility as far as this show is concerned.

Too right. If that's what the BBC were looking for in an interviewer they could at least have given the job to you and me Ailie. At least then the simpering and lustful flirting would have been sincere.

...and if there are any producers out there from the BBC, (or any other network) looking for pathetic gigglers, Kinder and I can be contacted via clicking on my red name.

Thanks for taking me under your wing Ailie. I feel so mothered. It's not often someone pitches my giggling abilities to the BBC in such a nurturing way.

Well, not to mention you would have been incredibly self-centred.

I think the BBC should seriously consider giving you a Russell Peter's 'special' to present... although I'm sure anything combining the two of you would be better suited to Channel 5 or Bravo...
Still, I'm sure it would make for compulsive viewing.

I'm actually 'elf-centred' this season. And what's more there are 6 varieties of my 'elf'. My own inner elf is being prostituted to children and subsiding to the power of their pocket money. But hey that's life as a novelty chocolate.

I must say I'm impressed by your extensive knowledge of the best TV niches available for my talents. But really, if Russell's 'special' is on display I think there's little need for much presentation to make worthwhile viewing.
