Smug crap. Simple as that.
I have to disagree Jon... got the video recently, and frankly it's a lot better than I remember.
Hmm... the thing is I remember a special by Hanna Barbara starring some US stars (this would be nearly 20 years ago now) in which they praised the lineage of The Flintstones, Wait Till... and The Jetsons, as showing how HB had followed changes in US family life. And I've always hated the Flintstones, so I immediately lumped in the others. I've seen 1 ep. each of them, and they were nothing special. But I admit it's that doc. that made me say 'smug crap'.
It actually seems to have little to do with the 'nice family' syndrome of the infinitely detestable Flintstones... the father is a semi-bigot who is always ultimately shamed by his own beliefs, his wife a money-burning gossip, one son a lazy scrounging hippy, the other a breadhead capitalist, the daughter obsessed with romantic notions fed to her by television, and best of all the next-door neighbour a full-on paranoid right-wing psycho who sees 'commies' hiding everywhere he goes.
If you ask me, some idiot who hadn't actually seen it made that documentary.
Fair enough. What do you reckon of Rocky & Bullwinkle?
All I remember is the song.
"til your father gets, wait til your father gets.. til your father gets ho-o-o-o-ome"
The very premise of this cartoon is disturbing. Children are bad, so mother threatens them with the return of their father. The man must have been a monster.
Rocky and Bullwinkle - hazy recollections, but I seem to remember thinking it was good...

What I can remember of it is terrific. Big influence on Mr Groening, apparently.
My wife does an ace Bullwinkle impersonation. Her Scooby Doo's pretty stellar too.
What can I say? Life is good.
I thought it was brilliant, I couldn't understand a snide remark remark in Rugrats once. They even had jokes about Rocky's enemies being Unamerican, etc. - genius stuff.
Rocky and Bullwinkle is ace...it is on different levels...adults enjoy the puns and inside jokes...the "Ruby Yacht of Omar Khyam" is a hoot...
Actually compared to most "classic" cartoons lke Jabberjaw, Speed Buggy and Josie and the Pussycats, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home was Shakespeare and Dostoevsky rolled into one! Don't believe me? Just check out the Boomerang channel! If American kids had nothing but this crud to watch in the 70s it would explain why so many of them now appear on Jerry Springer!!!
