R&M 'v's M&L
Posted Tue Aug 15 18:17:34 BST 2000 by Joe
Has anyone noticed the similarities between characters and voices done by mark and lard, and by reeves and mortimer?
There's Councillers Cox and Evans, who have the same sort of voice as shit agent, and numerous other mark 'n' lard creations, as well as mulligan and o'hare who sound strikingly similar to rev. lionel blair, and some song that m&L played today.
Who did the voices first? , is there any references to each other? - i can remember mark and lard once talking about cox/evans.
Any ideas?

And Radcliffe used to (maybe still does, for all I know) use "only joking - or am I?" as a catchphrase, as did Reeves in the introductions to That's Justice.

In The Smell of... there's a weird Barry White dream sequence ("urrrrhhh...show us yer knickers...") which is not dissimilar to M&L's Fat Harry White.

The similarities, generally are incredible, although M&L have never (to my knowledge) hit one another with frying pans.
I think M&L are funnier, although I love the insanity of R&M.

Vic Reeves was on M&L's show not to long ago. Think it was during the build up to Randall and Hopkirk (decreased).
I think they're both influenced by the same kind of thing (ie. life up't North), rather than them copying each other.

Us Northerners just live in our own zany, semi-surreal slap-stick world.

I don't mind what I drink, as long as I can have a nice bit of tripe with it.

I like Tolstoy imperial Vodka-style spirit, for people who think drinking vodka is an affectation, but feel they're too good for meths
