Paul Daniels's's's comedy strong-man Posted Tue Aug 15 13:23:29 BST 2000 by Sam D

Does anyone remember that Hans Moretti bloke who used to do crazy stuff on the Paul Daniels magic show?
Stuff like rolling about in a massive metal ball (actually rather like an alluminium version of the things you find in 'Kinder Suprises'(tm)) and catching a bullet in his head.
Well, I have a vague memory that he died performing one of these acts. Am I mistaken or is it true?

Bugger, that all sounds like a letter to the Radio times; "Please can you settle an argument.. my friend reckons Rita from "Where the Arse is" used to play Jonny Briggs's's's dad in..." etc.

I vividly remember Hans Moretti, he was on every week at one point, but sadly I don't remember reading of him dying...

Hans Moretti is still around, and still alive.

The bullet thing he does is a Russian Rouellete routine rather than catching a bullet in his head (which, admittedly would be superior).

He also did/does a trick where he balances a woman on a rolled up newspaper-tree.

He also appeared on Thames TV's much forgotten "Best of Magic" series from the early 1990s.

Love, NotGazTop

I think http://www.catmedia.de/kd/hm/ehrung.html proves he is living, though I can't translate it properly (My German is rusty) and babelfish appears to be down.

Didn't he appear with his wife (as the Morrettis) on Paul Daniels' show.
I can vividly remember a stunt where he stood on a plank balanced on a cylinder and fired a crossbow at a target which triggered another crossbow at a target then another then another until the final bolt went through an apple balanced on his head.

Quite cool at the time.

Never mind him - what about the ageing hippy who used to blow bubbles with cigarette smoke in them? He was cool.

Oh yeah! He blew a square bubble as well!
Imagine! A square bloody bubble! Fantastic!
And he blue that bubble that encompassed his whole body!
I read an interview with Daniels and he reckons he spent most of his career shagging ladies. When he wasn't on telly obviously.

Hans Moretti actually appeared on telly on Friday night!
Think it was on Room 101, but can't remember as I was drunk!
Fantastic.

He was called Doug something... Strictly speaking he put six normal (spherical) bubbles together, each partially flattening out to form a cube shaped space in the centre which he then filled with cigarette smoke. Yes, they don't show stuff like that anymore...

I thought "the ageing hippy" reference was about Ali Bongo who, in addition to advising Daniels and David Nixon, once appeared on my school stage in a Magic Evening alongside Al Glennan and others.

Glad you've put me straight there... Ali Bongo wore fabulous Persian slippers, his toes must have been curling...
