Theory - please prove me right / wrong Posted Mon Aug 14 17:30:58 BST 2000 by NotGazTop

Hello people.

In the pub the other night, we were discussing the theory that if you know who Kevin Eldon is, then you probably know who The Delagados are and what the difference between a +2 and a +3 Spectrum is.

Well... hmmm?

I meant "The Delgados" of course, before you hairy pedants jump on me and crush me like in that film.

>if you know who Kevin Eldon is
I don't actually!
>then you probably know who The Delagados are
I've heard of them - couldn't name anything they've done though.
>and what the difference between a +2 and a +3 Spectrum is.

A +2 had a built in tape drive, a +3 had a disk drive. +3 had I think 128K RAM - not sure about the +2.

Wasn't there a game for the speccy called mailstorm or something where you were this postman?

+2 did have 128K memory. My personal favourite speccy was the plain +, which also had 128K.

I also adore Kevin Eldon's work and know who the Delgados are.

And on the subject of Mr Eldon, does anyone know if Channel 5 or Paramount Comedy will be repeating Comedy Network soon, with the "Kevin Pork" monologue that Eldon did for one show?

You might be heartened to know that I'm too young either to be familiar with the work of popular beat combo 'The Delgados' or to know anything more about the Spectrum than that it was what your mate's brother spent all day typing long lines of programming into and then swearing at.

Also, until a couple of years ago, the fact that I'd only seen Kevin Eldon squawk about in Lee & Herring's stuff didn't really give me a chance to appreciate how good he really is. I'm there now though.

The Delgados are not much older than you Mogwai. They released their 3rd album this year.

Ther plain Spectrum+ had 48k RAM, actually.

Re: Mercury Prize

I reckon the classical music guy will win this year. I mean, they can't just keep failing forever can they?

Recently, someone bought my music'n'comedy fanzine. He was called Kevin, and lives in Eldon Street. Coincidence?

Yes, I know it's not a real coincidence of any kind...

And yes, I do know about Spectrum +2 and +3, and have all the Delgados albums.

The Delgados aren't as good as The Time.
