Ross Noble One Star Wonder Posted Mon Aug 14 16:44:22 BST 2000 by mrjolly

As you guys don't seem to care to much for the talents of the young geordie scallywag Ross noble you will be pleased to hear that todays Guardian awarded the red-headed funster only one star out of five. The review is here:
http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/edinburgh2000/article/0,2763,354072,00.html
Although not much of a critic myself - my analysis of things usually consists of something along the lines of "It was good", "It was very good", "It was really good", "It wasn't good at all." I'm sure you get the idea - I saw Noble's show last week it was er, not very good. Mind you, I'm not sure what this has to do with him getting down and dirty with young girls. This has nothing to do with his comedy unless he incorporates it into his act and I didn't get the impression that he does.
I spent a great deal of yesterday sifting though the site and have enjoyed it very much. I look forward to receiving my next phone bill. I found the site very much by accident and had a hell of a time finding it again today - how about some meta tags or do you not want to be found?

Coming to Channel 5 this autumn:

"ROSS NOBLE - HE'LL DO"

Every week a different struggling programme-making company pitches a mediocre lightweight late-night show to a major broadcasting corporation, whose commissioning editor idly flips through a copy of last year's Edinburgh Fringe Guide, finds that Adam What's-His-Face is already tied up to present a mediocre late-night offering for a rival channel, and reluctantly plumps for hopeless Geordie skank Noble instead, hoping vaguely that some kids might have heard of him. Noble is then given his own show which he presents in his own extremely imitable shambling way, only to be bottled off by the crew while filming the first edition.

Also new for autumn on Channel 5:

"EROTICA EXOTICA FEATURING ROSS NOBLE"

For the first time in this country, Channel 5 can bring you the latest in uncensored hardcore pornography from around the world. However, in order to comply with strict British broadcasting regulations concerning erotic content, a two-second close-up of budding chameleon-haired Geordie comic Ross Noble will be shown every ten seconds.

Sorry, I'm going to defend him. Having seen Ross Noble's act (and worked with him on several occasions) I think a lot of this criticism is unfair.

I think he's probably the best compere in the world. His lightning speed improvisational skills are not hype, they are genuine class.

As an act, he can't match this. But to give him a one star review is just bullshit. He may sometimes wander into blind alleys when improvising, but the good stuff is just brilliant. I'm all for exposing hyped up imposters, its just I think its insane to suggest Ross Noble is one of them

I went to the Guardian page and read the reviw only to find out that that was the night I was there. I was sat next to the bloke from Texas and I was impressed Ross got as much from the lame comments the bloke made as he did. I get the feeling it wasn't the best night that night, but I came out in a great mood, completely hyperactive and going on about how much I enjoyed it. I don't think there are that many comedians who can generally do something with anything that is thrown at them, but Ross has proved before and will again I'm sure that he's one of the few.

the reviewer said it made him think he could do it himself.
this shows a lack of understanding
wether you like RN or not, to do what he does in the way he does it requires at the very least an incredible amount of confidence, and at best a great deal of skill

Plus, RN probably thinks he could do the reviewer's job himself. And hes probably closer to being right than the reviewer is.
yeah... so arses to the reviewer!

You could say the same about the bloke who shot Jill Dando.

Incidentally, for all the Noble fans, here's rejected SOTCAA coverpic #13:

Enjoy.
