Autumn Highlights, BBC1: Comedy Posted Sat Aug 12 23:53:38 BST 2000 by Justin

Coming soon to BBC1:

JEREMY
New sitcom starring Jeremy Spake, the slightly (and acceptably, to Daily Mail readers) camp bloke from BBC1's Airport and his continuing madcap adventures in finding other fragments of work unrelated to airports, or even aerodromes. Co-starring Jane McDonald (The Cruise) as his agent, who hilariously and ironically, has some irrational fear of anything that isn't an airport. Written by three blokes who wrote some words for Rory McGrath to say on They Think It's All Over. (Sundays 8pm, from September)

THE ROYLE FAMILY PHOTO ALBUM
New series, but packed full of stuff you recognise, so as not to frighten you. The first episode features all the best "My A***" quips from both series, the second all the best rhymes about going for a s***, and another one will feature 30 minutes of excerpts of Ricky Tomlinson playing the banjo really quite well. It's all new and improved! (Thursdays 9.30, from October)

TIME FOR TEA!
New panel game from the makers of They Think It's All Over. Except this one's not about sport, it's about tea! Each week, host Tony Hawks asks his guests some questions about tea, including a round where they have to make a pot of tea - blindfolded! It might be hilarious. It might not be. But it won't be. Team captains will be the animated Sidney from the Tetley Tea advert, and the "You hum it son, I'll play it" chimp from the PG Tips piano's-on-me-foot advert.
(Thursdays 10pm from September)

HUGH DENNIS'S COMMERCIAL BREAKDOWN
Exactly the same as all the other ones. But new. (Clips the same though.) (Wednesdays 10.50pm, from November)

MODS
New Graham Linehan sitcom (based on an idea with Arthur Mathews) about some blokes and a girl who ride around on scooters. Period detail will be second-to-none, with a brilliant joke in episode 5 when one of the Merton Parkas (not Mick Talbot) makes a cameo appearance, and everyone fails to recognise him. Including the viewers. With music by Secret Affair.
(Fridays 10.20pm, from September)

JIM DAVIDSON'S NICE NOW
Starring Jim Davidson being nice.
(Saturdays 6.30pm, from September)

GROUND FORCE PLUS
As usual, but with added laugh-track and topical material from Tommy Walsh. (Fridays 8pm, from whenever)

CRISPS
Bleak sketch show about gardening in hospital grounds devised by someone at Talkback who, every night, despairs to the Lord Almighty that they weren't born with Chris Morris's talent. Featuring disorientating background music from Heather Small and Jane McDonald. (Tuesdays, 12.05am, from November)

MEIN TOGMEISTER
Terry Wogan's comedy German accent from his Radio 2 breakfast show is finally given its own series. Musical guests this week are Laibach and Billy Ocean. (Sundays 5.30pm, from October)

WIGWAM BAM!
New panel game from the makers of They Think It's All Over. This one's about tents! It's hosted by Tony Hawks, and the team captains will be Barbara Windsor because she was in Carry On Camping, and one of Five Star, because they were signed to Tent Records back in the 1980s. In one of the rounds they have to put a tent up - blindfolded! Contains strong language, hopefully. (Mondays 9.30, from September)

ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES
Brand new sitcom from the pen of John "Heartburn Hotel" Sullivan, and starring David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.
More details soon! (Fridays 8.30, September)

I'M ON FILM
Alan Davies grows up! And shows his versatility and seriousness in this new sitcom, because it's on film, not videotape. It's about a bloke who lives in a cinema auditorium, and who works afternoon shifts in a photolab, so that the title makes some vague kind of sense. (Tuesdays 10.20, from October)

LOOK AT US - WE SET UP A COMPETITION FOR YOU LOT!
Documentary series and contractual obligation about the shortlisted finalists in the marvellous BBC Talent 2000 Stand-Up Section. Watch with horrified fascination as the winner discovers he has won a walk-on part in "Are You Still Awake?" at 4am on UK Play. And nothing else ever again.
(Sundays 10.30am, from November)

I'd watch a compilation series of Jim Davidson being really unpleasant in the seventies and early eighties. It would be fascinating viewing with lots of wincing moments.

And they should include a clip of Lenny Henry on small faces doing racist jokes about himself.

Oh, be fair. "Stand Up Jim Davidson" was in 1990, and he was a complete shit in that as well.
