Not being in the area I feel uninclined, what make's it so crap..?
>Not being in the area I feel uninclined, what make's it so crap..?
Possibly the fact that the series editor doesn't know her arse from her elbow, that's the information I hear on the grapevine.
I gather Granada are about to advertise her job, and my best mate who's a great journo, loads of top experience in radio and press journalism, wants to go for it!
I already have told them how bad it is but apparently it is chaging at the end of the month - so who knows -
Is this related to the revamp of all Granada Media channels? I've heard that Granada plan to make them all half-an-hour in future, where this leaves the other regional commitments I'm not sure.
Any more news on the revamp btw -- including this "regional continuity" thing?
BTW I completely agree that GT is possibly the worst regional news programme I've ever seen -- I know they are supposed to be lighter than the national news but Granada have gone to extremes...
The new look North East Tonight with Mike Neville launching on Sep 4th will still be one hour long aparently.
Everyone moans about Granada Tonight (justifiably as I've actually seen it) but was Granada Reports that bad?
Granada Reports was a celebrated programme, held up as a perfect example of how to produce a regional news programme. Quite how and why Granada have allowed their standards to slip this far is beyond me.
Oh, btw anon, I know that NET (and GT) will remain 1 hour *for now*, I had heard however that Granada plan to make them half an hour "sometime in the future". (A lunchtime bulletin perhaps)...

It's been half an hour for a couple of weeks now. Is that just a summer thing for the time being, or is it permanent?
Its just a summer thing, god help us we couldn't last 60 minutes of Pam Royle!
Well it's not good news for everyone! Tonight isn't wonderful, but it beats Wheel of Fortune. And we don't get the hysterical Christine Talbot/YTV ident...

I think she's lovely. Whatever else you may say about her, she's a survivor!

Which they sometimes manage to play when Christine isn't presenting!

I agree. Lovely woman. Met her a few times. You leave our Pam alone Neil...
>And we don't get the hysterical Christine Talbot/YTV ident...
Don't get any ident do we? Strange that, you'd think YTV were ashamed of having to show such luminaries as You've Been Framed and Wheel Of Fortune :)
Still, on Tyne Tees we now get Pam playing continuity announcer, "North East tonight, right after <pause> Wheel Of Fortune!!"
It was quite spooky when Jonathan Morrell did it a few weeks ago. He went so far back into CA mode I swear he had a secret stash of birthday cards hidden under the desk...
It's just that there is a special version of the YTV regional ident which is only used before tonight. Instead of images of the region beside the chevron we get glamour pictures of Christine Talbot at a photo shoot!
I ahve nothing against Pam as a person, I just think she's Al Gore to Mike Neville's Clinton
and I prefer Kate Silverton

Is Christine Talbot the only person to appear in her own ident?
(On a similar note, I do believe there is a "Missing" ident as well, it shows dark city centre style pictures at the right hand side)
The annoucers have been known to mention whats going on in the idents before now. Once the man said "And views of Skegness, bring us to the regional news"
