Charlie Chaplin Posted Thu Aug 10 20:38:51 BST 2000 by Ed wilson

I know I may be deeply unfashionable but does anyone else here like Chaplin at all? I know a lot of his stuff is outdated and mawkish and sentimental by todays standards, but I watched 'Modern Times' the other day for the first time in ages and was laughing out loud at least as much as I do when I watch Eddie Murphy or Steve Martin or Jim Carrey etc (and this is not a pop at them because I love the best of their work too)

I genuinely like his serious stuff. The 'comedy' ones are excruciating.
