A new debate: sitcom openings and endings Posted Thu Aug 10 13:11:09 BST 2000 by Spaaaaam

What are the best opening scenes ane closing scenes for a series of sitcom?
My favourite sitcom opening: Men Behaving Badly Series 4. The wedding dream sequence.
My favourite sitcom ending: The New Statesman Series 2. The 'Who Shot Alan B'stard?' cliffhanger.

Anyone else? (and don't mention Blackadder Goes Forth cos it's too bloody obvious)

I say the ending of 'Goodbye Mr Kent', because we don't know if she agrees to marry him. We still don't after 18 years, there wasn't a 2nd series.

The ending of Frasier season seven was excellent.

But then, so was the ending of season one. Oh, and two.

Not to mention three...

The first OFAH scene ('Sidney Potter') takes some beating.

The Young Ones driving the bus off a cliff via the face of Cliff takes some beating.

What about the end of Blackadder one?
Or two?
Or three?

I used to like the way Porridge began - with all the doors locking. Creepy. And the ending with the freeze frame was also quite endearing. I think it's on the SOTCAA site someone mentions how unsettling the end of Dad's Army was - with them all advancing as if they were really going into battle...

I saw the end of a sit-com called "Pay 'n' Display" last night that I'd never heard of before. The announcer at the end said it was the last in the series. I found that quite comforting.

The final scene of 'Whoops Apocalypse'. A genuinely eerie, downbeat and spooky ending to any series.

There'll be an ARCHIVE REVIEW article in a bit.

Didn't like the ending of The Young Ones. Not so much the fact that they all died as that the whole episode was so transparently a set-up to kill them all off.
