I imagine there will be redundancies. However, with Granada under pressure from Granada Media (which is hell bent on moving operations to London) and BBC Manchester often going through dry patches, this will probably secure network TV production jobs in the North West for the long run.
>Yesterday, Granada and the Beeb joined forces in Manchester to create a single resources base. This means progs like Coronation Street and A Question Of Sport will now be produced by the same team. If this means better progs with the least amount of redundancies then fine.

>Which leads me to these questions: where else would this work? Is it a good thing?
I'd say it's a good thing. There is an overcapicity problem in Manchester concering studios etall. As part of all this, the BBC's Studio A is to close. Well I don't think they use it for much apart from a Question of Sport and the Wednesday Lottery.
This thing will work (if it gets the go ahead). It will help reduce programming costs and keep people in work. And if all goes to plan, it should bring more programme makers to Manchester. Manchester is already a big production centre, but has alas dwindled slightly over the years. This could help put it back on the map.
Other areas it could work? Anywhere there's overcapacity. It would only make sense where there are big centres though - possibly Birmingham.
Apart from Birmingham, there aren't any other cities which have major studio centres for both the ITV company and the BBC. The BBC's other big centre is Bristol, and I don't think there would be many economies in sharing with HTV West.
Similarly there's not much sense in Granada Media and BBC North linking up in Leeds - the BBC already hire YTV studio 4 when required (e.g. Question Time) and there wouldn't be much point in moving The Superleague Show as well. Anyway, the BBC have decided the opposite and are building a new centre in Leeds.
> ... the BBC already hire YTV studio 4 when required (e.g. Question Time) ...
I seem to also remember the BBC using YTV studios for some of the interior scenes in League Of Gentlemen.
I DIDNT KNOW THAT THE BBC WERE BUILDING NEW STUDIOS IN LEEDS, WHERE ABOUTS?
Apparently somewhere near Quarry House (the NHS/Secret police HQ). Or so I'm told...
