<Falls asleep under table>
*dreams of a better time...where quality tv doesn't die in the daytime & barney the dinosaur was never created..*
And who's your favourite out of S-Club 7 & Ultravox? Neither vote has any merit. Rating a 20year-old comedy-drama against a bunch of mindless chatcrapshows & teen-oriented soap operas... I ask you! Debate their individual merits by all means but don't sanction this waste of all our time.
Incidentally, has anyone been ill/unemployed enough recently to catch Minder in its new, inexplicable mid-afternoon slot? Someone's had a go at "cleaning it up", which means that while the soundtrack's now digital and crystal clear, the picture is (a) widescreen and (b), more importantly, fucked - old film stock does not transfer happily to digital. At first I thought my TV screen was filthy and covered with small specks, and indeed it was, but even after I'd dusted it, the picture quality remained exactly the same. It actually makes the film look worse. Well bloody done whichever pig-witted archivist is responsible. I'll bet they binned the masters as well.
>Someone's had a go at "cleaning it up"...
Presumably, they've had to do the same with the content. I seem to remember there was usually an obligatory "stripper" scene most weeks, where, under the gaze of my parents, I had to pretend to look away....
Let's face it, repeats are about the only credibility daytime telly has ever had anyway. I remember skiving off school in 1986 three days running so I could watch first series episodes of Only Fools & Horses... at the bizarre time of 12.30pm. The rest of it is bilge, and always has been: from Eamonn Holmes's Open Air and Crosswits to Anne & Nick and the offensive rise and fall and rise and fall and rise of La Feltz. Depressing beyond belief - at least Programmes For Schools And Colleges actually TAUGHT you something.
Re: S Club 7 vs. Ultravox.
You're right. You can't compare a classic like 'Reach' with pap like 'Vienna'.

So much to say. So little inclination.
