Who's gonna win the Perrier Award this year?
Posted Tue Aug 1 15:44:03 BST 2000 by kinder surprise
The papers say the Boosh have it in the bag. What does anyone else think?
I also think it will be Russell Peters for best newcomer or even a real PA nomination. The guy is fantastic. Just out of interest has a foreign comic ever won it before?

Lano and Woodley were Australian (and still are as far as I know)

Oh Jon you're so upbeat and jester-like. It really is quite a marvel to see you in action.
And Capurro definitely only got best newcomer. I wonder why so few foreigners (not counting the Irish) win it. Would it just be spoilt on someone who wouldn't benefit as much from all the British TV opportunities and chances to mention the word 'Perrier' that would come flooding in?

kinder - I'm pretty sure The Doug Anthony Allstars won it about ten years ago, and they were Australian.
Beyond that....hmmm....

I nominate Peter Ohanraohanrahan solely on the basis of his fine "virgin chaser" joke on the "subbes" thread above.

I am hurt and sickened. There is just a line you can cross when taking a compliment humbly.

Plus Australians don't completely count though do they? Especially the ones who survive doing the British circuit.

Re: Australians and Perrier. My ever reliable correspondent in that country tells me that no, the Doug Anthony Allstars were only a nomination, but a duo called Los Trios Ringbarkus won in the eighties (I've seen a poster of them at Up The Creek - how about that?). So it's us and the Aussies.

Didn't Sean Hughes win it once? Sorry to be a pedant, but he's Irish, do not British or Austrailian. Unless he's really from North London.

Yes, yes 'technically' he's Irish but everyone knows once an Irishman signs up his soul for comedy he then becomes a resident of Twickenham.

Sean Hughes was born in London, and moved to Ireland when he was about five or six, I seem to remember him saying once. Sorry if I got this wrong.

Australians don't count because they are also the Queen's loyal subjects.

It's all so xenophobic. It saddens me that a brilliant Canadian stands little chance because of bias. And he is quite possbily the most beautiful man you could ever lay your eyes on.

Well that's no good. I need to feel special. How about a series on Granada Men And Motors - maybe taking a "sideways look" at restoring classic cars?

Australians loyal subjects?? Don't they want to oust the Queen? (And does this give them an edge in winning the Perrier?)

Are you saying your exhaust is a blindspot?
