IVAs were replaced late last year at Border with sound-only announcements from YTV in Leeds. A shame, I know, which leaves (I think) UTV and Channel as the remaining companies with in-vision continuity at some point of the day.
Channel tv scrapped in-vision continuity when the ITV hearts arrived in the islands.
so only UTV are left.
THATS A SHAME I DIDNT KNOW ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS WERE COMING FROM LEEDS
>Channel tv scrapped in-vision continuity when the ITV hearts arrived in the islands.
>so only UTV are left.
And invision continuity is restricted to weekend evenings, although the announcers sometimes appear during the weekyday evenings also.
THE BORDER AREA COVERS TWO COUNTRIES THEREFORE THIS IS A UNIQUE REGION AND SHOULD KEEP MUCH OF ITS IDENTITY NO MATTER WHO OWNS OR CONTROLS IT. PEOPLE IN LOCKERBIE FOR EXAMPLE WOULD RATHER HEAR SOME SCOTTISH ANNOUNCERS FROM CARLISE RATHER THAN YTV OLD FARTS WITTERING ON ABOUT ITV AT THE HEART OF YOUR REGION. I DONT KNOW IF THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENS NOW BUT I SUSPECT IT PROBABLY DOES FROM WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE SAID ON THIS SUBJECT. DOES BORDER HAVE ANY OF ITS OWN ANNOUNCERS NOW OR DOES IT TAKE YTVS GENERIC FEED ALL DAY LONG WITH GTV AND TT. I KNOW BORDER DIDNT USE MANY ANNOUNCEMENTS DURING THE DAY BEFORE. IT WAS JUST THE LOGO AND JINGLE THAT APPEARED B
DOES Border ever use its own dog now for trailors for its regional programs. I know it did for all programs until a couple of years ago
>THE BORDER AREA COVERS TWO COUNTRIES
Three actually. The Isle of Man is far more independent from England than Scotland, even after devolution. An independent parliament since 979 and all that.

Is the IoM really a country though? I can't say I've heard it called that before. Though whatever it is, it is different from England, Scotland, or the UK as a whole.

At the risk of being boring . . .
It is a "crown dependency" of the United Kingdom.
All its legislation is its own.
It sets its own tax (and has an agreement with the UK to have the most of the same indirect taxation levels). That's why it's a tax haven.
Its parliament, Tynwald, predates Westminster by several centuries. It began in 979 (or probably earlier). The Isle of Man and Iceland argue over which has the longest continuous parliament in the world.
It has (or had) its own language.
It has its own nationalist party.
Its politics have nothing to do with the UK's, although most of its politicians would feel comfortable in the Conservative Party.
In short, it has a stronger claim to being a country than Scotland or England. They're really administrative districts of the United Kingdom.
And Manx people are not citizens of the European Union. The passports are different. Instead of having United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, they have British Islands written on them.

Can you stop this? I mean, I keep thinking that someone has replied to one of my boring posts, only yto be cruelly disappointed!

Boring posts? You? Never!
Now all this comedy.. ;)
>Boring posts? You? Never!
I was being sarcastic. My posts are always interesting, Andrew, you should know that!
Now, where was I? Idents, they're great, aren't they? I like to look at them a lot. I really like them, I do. They were even better in the eighties you know...
Sorry, I'm boring myself now!

MORE, MORE, MORE! I'm getting a bit of a stiffy
>MORE, MORE, MORE! I'm getting a bit of a stiffy
That statement of yours has just appeared in the Top Ten list "Things I don't want to hear from Manx Men".
Does the old Border logo do it for you?

The mere whisper of words and phrases including: Caldbeck, Selkirk and associated transmitters,
Bulloughs, Lowther Park, The Sands Centre, Pat Doody, Fiona Armstrong, Derek Batey, Kirkcudbright (properly pronounced), Hawick (properly pronounced), and "Come to the Cumberland, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh"
lead to all sorts of embarrassing stains.
The old logo is eyeporn. I want to have its babies.
All this talk of unnatural urges towards the Border logo - and from a country where I'm still illegal. There's something wrong with the Tynwald's priorities methinks
>a country where I'm still illegal
Oh yes, the Prohibition of Ben Act 1788. When will that be repealed?
>The mere whisper of words and phrases including: Caldbeck, Selkirk and associated transmitters,
Cambret Hill and Sandale do it for me.
No seriously - I'm banned in the Isle of man

But why?

Does your cat have a tail or something?
No - I'm gay - I'm not allowed
>No - I'm gay - I'm not allowed
Yes you are, if you're over 21 and in private.
The law was changed in 1992. I was in the House of Keys when it happened.
They never informed me - anyway I'm 18 so I'll have to suppress my wish to visit for a few years! - Were you actually IN the HOK or just a visitor?

I was not a member. I was a reporter.
IoM has its own Switchboard now, which is better than most rural-ish areas in the UK.
Going back to the sunny IoM for the weekend. As someone over 21, I shall indulge myself.
No tail. But three legs.
>No tail. But three legs.
Now you're just boasting :o)
OK - stop flashing your trinacrias and let's get back to border TV!!!!!
Any comments on Fiona Armstrong and the F-factor?
