Gaelic Broadcasting Posted Fri Jul 28 15:17:34 BST 2000 by Richard

On this page: http://www.penelope.demon.co.uk/atw/grm-identsp.html there is an example of the Grampian Station name appearing in Scots Gaelic as "Telebhisean Grampian". Is there a similar, Galeic version of the current Gramian TV idents?

And is BBC ONE Scotland still calling itself BBC ONE Alba before Gaelic programmes? I'd hazard a guess that ONE is not the same in Gaelic!

I wonder why BBC Northern Ireland don't do the same for Gaelic programmes there - though there is only one programme in Irish a week - Teletubbies! (Slan Slan Tinky-Winky! Slan!) (I've probably spelt that wrong)

Do Grampian even bother with Gaelic programming any more?

Funnily enough, I have a feeling that ONE isn't Welsh for One either. But then we don't get BBC ONE Cymru so that's not a problem at all...

I thought they did, but I can't see any evidence of it in their listings. So they may not bother. I suppoese there is TeleG and the BBC to sustain the needs of the Gaelic speakers there.

I'll keep an eye out for BBC TWO Thuaisceart ireann anyhow!

Correction, after the Nightly news on either Weds or Thurs, Scottish and Grampian have several Gaelic progs.
