>Just inviting your comments on how the Concorde air-crash was covered in your region.
>
>BBC news 24's coverage was bareable and didn't go over the same ground as they usually do. BUT they must have had their 'latest' footage on a continuous loop as the same shots were constantly being shown!!!!!
>
>ITN news at 18:30 - abysmal. Just thrown together eyewitness reports and Nic Owen stood at Heathrow not saying much. One of the worst ITN news programmes i have ever seen.
>
>BBC One took a feed at 17:35 of BBC news 24 and then covered it for 15mins on the 6 o'clock news. Better than ITN but still lacking that certain something.
>
>The best coverage was actually HTV West local news at 6 o'clock. They had good background information on Concorde, a few live links about the crash and numerous interviews with people involved with building/maintaining Concorde and aviation expects. Extremely good coverage for a local 'small' newsroom which in my opinion was superior to the ITN and BBC coverage.

> IT IS NOT UP TO THE REGIONS TO REPORT THIS TERRIBLE STORY. THE BEST COVERAGE SHOULD BE THE BBC NATIONAL NEWS PROGRAMMES AND CHANNELS AND ITN CHANNELS.
THE CARLTON CENTRAL EAST REGION DID NOT MENTION A THING ABOUT IT.
PERHAPS HTV WEST JUST NEEDED TO FILL THE TIME, AS THERE WERE NO MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE SOUTH WEST TODAY.

Not very surprising when you think that much of Britain's contribution towards the building of Concorde took place in the region. Many of the contributors to the national news were in Bristol. Whether Points West did such a good job, I don't know, although they went on after the national news on BBC 1 and may have been reluctant to blatantly cover the same ground again.
Anyone else catch the 9 O'Clock News? I honestly wish I'd had my video running. After "the main points again", Michael Burke turns to side camera and intones (inexact rendition as I was too busy reeling to take it all in):
"It beat its critics. It beat political barriers. It beat economical limitations." (Fade in shots of Concorde in flight.) "It beat the world speed record. It beat the sound barrier. It even beat the sun as it sped across the world. But today the Concorde was outrun... by disaster." (Shot of smouldering wreckage: fade in copyright tag and BBC logo; no sound. Fade to black.)
I half expected it to mix into a shot of a poppy field at the end...
Cue sombre music.....
How poetic! Maybe they'll release it as a 'collectors edition'?
I must admit to feeling horrified when I first heard that "A Concorde has crashed" but my horror turned to glee when I heard it was an Air FRANCE Concorde full of GERMANS!!!!! Divine retribution!!!!!!
Is it just me or has this thread gone beyond the boundaries of "a bit tasteless" and ploughed on into "downrght offensive"?
>I must admit to feeling horrified when I first heard that "A Concorde has crashed" but my horror turned to glee when I heard it was an Air FRANCE Concorde full of GERMANS!!!!! Divine retribution!!!!!!
Ah, Iain. How nice of you to join us. Cnt.

Oh, yeah, because they are foregin they deserve to die. I gather there are rules about what I can say on this forum, so I will restrain myself - but glee at people being killed? These people have grieving families, you know. Divine retribution? For what? Is God British or something? I would imagine there is a fair bit of tongue in cheek in your comment, but there is no excuse for saying anything like this. Oh yeah, it'd be horrific if there were British people on board, but not otherwise. You are sick. I could go on, such is my anger at what you have said - I see you don't identify yourself. What would you say if someone on this forum had a relative on that plane? It is not inconceivable. If anyone connected with the tragedy is unlunky enough to read your comments, let us hope it does not compund theif grief. Your sort just sicken me.
I agree with Richard but my main point is Sky News coverage was by far the best.
No adverts for 3/2.30 hours!!!
and also, the NEWS ACTIVE (^) service was showing the uncut video the headlines was of the interviews with people they had had and the live coverage was excellent, they had someone out there by Sky News at Ten as well.
CNN were the first on the scene and the reporting from them was poor, as not suprisingly it switched to CNN US and helping out at CNNI I think that the CNNI coverage would have been better.
Sky News looks sooo much nicer than News 24, none of the ugly maroon astons and graphics, and thankfully all dogs , EXCEPT Sunrise, which is now poo, are kept to one corner.
Sky News has a nicer set and also a nicer looking logo sequence :)
Visiting the US recently Ithought that CNBC took pride with presentation, but NBC and MSNBC's is superb, wonderful! I love it!
Also CBS has a great news set / room as does CNN US and ABC News.
Also, Sky news has been going since 1989 yet is not a widely known about as news 24 or BBC World, yet it is a international channel, why is this. finally can someone tell me, did Sky News feature in Independance Day or was it another channel, I seem to remember the Sky News DOG on a TV screen during the film!?!?
Thanks

I prefer News 24, but I think it is just down to individual prefs.

I thought Sky News was pretty well known - maybe News 24 has the edge now, especially as News 24 is on BBC 1 after closedown.
Sky call it an international channel, though it looks very UK-based to me. Maybe there is another version for other parts of the world (obviously Europeans will get the same, Astra version as us). I know in Australia it is "Sky News Australia" - I don't think it is similarly renamed elsewhere in the world.
>finally can someone tell me, did Sky News feature in Independance Day or was it another channel, I seem to remember the Sky News DOG on a TV screen during the film!?!?
Yes - it did - presented by Bob Friend. Though they used the current logo of the time, the graphics were non-standard.
Thanks for clearing that Indep. day thing up it had been bugging me for ages!!!!
BTW - when Sky News is shown in far-away countries, does it still trail other Sky Channels which cannot be received there?
I would think that each cable or sat network (i.e. Star TV which carries Sky news in mid east or asia i think) has different adverts ( or i would hope it would) and therefore different trailers.
