Best name for regional news programmes (ITV/BBC)

CALENDAR NEWS- sounds ok but the studio lets it down.

LONDON TONIGHT- fine. Ecxept that it's the regional news programme in Berkshire, Essex and Surrey.

MIDLANDS TODAY- sounds fine but the BBC don't seem to like the idea of calling it West Midlands Today.

POINTS WEST- West???!!!! Bristol? Gloucester????? Swindon????????? Isn't that the North Westcountry???!!!!!

LOOK NORTH- am I talking about Leed's or Newcastle's regional news programme?

MERIDIAN TONIGHT- great title. it's a shame, like GRANADA TONIGHT, that it couldn't be called something more direct to southerners ie. NEWS SOUTH etc.

SPOTLIGHT- Nothing that exciting can happen in Devon and Cornwall!!!!!

CENTRAL NEWS WEST- (which also uses Central News East's reports on Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Coventry and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire all the time) would be better of being called BIRMINGHAM TODAY.

CENTRAL NEWS EAST- no faults: excellent!

NEWSROOM SOUTH EAST- LONDON PLUS was better!!

I must agree with the spotlight one, nothing that exciting does happen down here...& spotlight is decidedly dull...

Down South we are used to a certain repitition in the name: Day by Day, Coast to Coast....er...Meridian Tonight...kinda spoils the pattern of things!

Please don't fall into the trap of stereotyping the South West- it has it's own problems, just like any other region. Don't be so predictable.
