I like Eldon a lot, but there's a case to be made for him being the weak performing link in 'Jam'. Not as natural as Bullmore, as deranged as Heap or having the screen presence of Cann. Just a touch of 'broad comic acting' style in an environment where it stuck out a mile.
Oh hang on - this thread is supposed to be a paean to the man's gifts. Forget I said anything...
I'm sure he'll take it as faint praise.
Eldon was good at playing shocked people in Jam - and i thought he fitted in nicely with the other actors, if perhaps slithly less naturalistic then them - but maybe that's why he was used.
Kevin Eldon was responsible for some of the funniest moments in Big Train and the only funny characters in I'm Alan Partridge and Knowing Me Knowing Yule. His comic talents should be more widely used, as he seems to have a broader range than, say, Mark Heap. And I hear he does a lot of good work for charity.
And what a magnificent cock he has.
Surely nobody can disagree with me when
I proclaim his rare stand-up appearances
as totally fucking brilliant. Clever , sharp,
weird with a manic delivery.
Eldon is probably one of the greatest, perhaps the finest, maybe even the best at something or other which he does. I've seen a lot of silly talk here and sometimes I can't believe my eyes. To suggest that Eldon is merely God is quite preposterous. How dare you under-rate his talent. I had the great pleasure of working with Kevin in 1991 and we also most cracked it. But street begging is a tough life, especially with the import of foreigners who've lowered the begging wage by accepting less and living frugally.
I'm attributing the oddness of that last posting to the lateness of the hour...;o)
Anyhoo, I thought what I saw of KE's standup was very good in content but marred by his obvious discomfort with the genre (genre is not the right word...there's a much better word than that but it's hiding from me at the moment). Anyone else?

'Metier'? 'medium'?, 'dicomfort with that arena'? 'that style of comedy'?
'..load of old rope'?
MEDIUM. That was it. Cheers.
