Dangerously close to bitterness

Don't get me wrong, there's stuff on this site that's genuinely valuable to a comedy fan in search of new or different fixes from their favourites, but the parody stuff varies wildly from ugly but beautiful hits (the Embra stuff is 90% spot on) to sheer bitter wank. I don't care who you are or what you do but some of the new stuff reads like childish jealousy or sheer product envy.
Comedy is entertainment for fuck's sake. It's what's one or a number of people do to make money by making people laugh. Nothing else. The mimes in Covent Garden will tell you the same thing. Everyone who does comedy stands and falls by their ability to make half a dozen people in a room or twenty million people in a country or any number of people in between laugh. If they're not to your taste, then so be it, but you can't say 'this is crap because it takes stuff from this, this and this'. Saying 'this is crap because I don't like it' is fine because there really is a distinct lack of this kind of criticism in the world of UK comedy and it should be continued and encouraged, but picking apart acts because they've been Perrier nominated or got a transmittable pilot or a column in Loaded sounds like a clique vendetta. Be critical for sure but be careful with your targets as a fine source of comedy crit could quickly become a home for cynical cnts.

Maybe their style of cynicism isn't 'to your taste.'

Personally I haven't found it difficult to ignore the parts of the site that I found disagreeable. I just use my handy 'brain' device to tell me which bits I agree with and which bits I don't. This eliminates any 'dangerousness.'

But what's wrong with bitterness? It's a human emotion, like all the others.

If he'd said 'Dangerously close to Radioactive Waste' then he would have had a point.

What I reckon about that Edinborough piss-take is that the editors have made their private"OOOh,you cant say that"humour public.Unfortunately, this can come across to an outsider ie: us lot, as wanky, mean spirited, mysanthropy rather than an acerbic look at todays comedy scene.Any aspiring writers or performers who chance upon this otherwise excellent site may be entirely demoralised by the elitest negative and quite frankly creepy attitudes of its authors. If you honestly think you can make a change Guys, then for fucks sake get out thre and do it."Buts it not our job to" I hear you carp.Make it your job then.Your passionate and witty enough to do this site,so either drive yourselves into the mire of negativity or just piss off and start a Rutland Weekend TV site.

Problem being, no-one's particularly intereasted in making good comedy anymore - BBc and ITV still insist on making comedy that has a 'star name' attached to it, rather than any jokes, which presumably come from said star 'mugging' at the camera. This site has a lot to complain about, and seems to do most of it ok. The edinborough guide thing seems to have been blown all out of proportion by hypocrites and idiots like Dan L, as that whole article makes fun of too many targets, and loses it's point and impact quickly, IMHO. The fact that the Corpses have a joke in it about themselves makes this somewhat clearer.
