Still very funny, but its major influence often ignored. Where does this magazine fit into comedy history?

Hear, hear Bingo.I believe Viz has informed and influenced comedy in the UK more than anyone or thing else has in the last twenty years.Fast Show,Harry Enfield,Vic and Bob,Mark and Lard,Lee and Herring, amongst many more are all Vizesque. In fact, this whole sites over riding acidic humour is pure Viz(Check out the fake fringe guide.Ouch!)Sadly, it has spawned a glut of irony-free witless imitators such as Smut,Zit,BrainDamage,Poot,Arse etc. All shit.Without exception. It has also made advertisers change their approach.Commercials now are a lot more knowing then they used to be since Viz subverted magazine advertising.Arguably you could blame them for the overall cruelty and abrasiveness that has crept into modern day humour.I used to hate the way people like Andi Peters went OO-EER, Fnarr, fnarr in the broom cupboard.Incidentally,to me, they made "cunt" a lot more acceptable in every day conversation.Despite this, Viz will guarantee more belly laughs to an average issue than French and Saunders have achieved in an entire career.
Viz, I salute you on your Silver anniversary ,so stick that in your chocolate tea towel holder you bunch of Geordie cunts!

D.Baddiel once named it as his main influence.

I used to find it's own claims of being "not as funny as it used to be" amusing, but the last edition (published a month or two back, I guess there's a new one out soon..) I genuinely found rather lacking in humour.

Apart from that, wonderful comic. There are those that dismiss it as childish toilet humour. Usually said by those who haven't actually read it.

You can often see swear-words that appear in Viz being taken up by other comedians and trickling their way into the mainstream.
I can't think of any concrete examples right now.

Agreed with the man who said it has gone downhill last couple of editions (last 3 or 4 for me)...Hasn't the main guy (Chris something) left now?

Billy the Fish took it for me...
