In the world of televisual land the day begins at 06:00:00 in the morning just as GMTV starts therefore when Central and Westcountry return they will begin at 09:25:00 and NOT 00:01 as suggested above!!!!

Surley the new look will arrive then?

Well you will still get the 'westcountry' news during GMTV exactly like you have now. There doesn't currently seem to be any carlton branding during GMTV bulletins hence if this doesn't change the relaunch will be at 09:25:00!!!

Gotcha!!!

Tyne Tees always launch their new looks before North East Tonight at 5.30/6pm so you have most of the day with all the old stuff.

At 6.00 a.m., ITV companies play their idents before GMTV's news hour so it could start then.

Surely they are at 5.59:45ish

The change from IT\* to [itv] changed at 9.25 - the Trisha Trailer at 9.24ish had the IT\* logo. I was watching on UTV so I didn't see the logo in use till later on, but I think regions such as Central used it from 9.25

The idents may not be used from 9.25, but, as will franchise takeovers, the name of the channels will change at 0.00

This is just a complete wind-up!!! I can't believe for instance that 'they' could introduce a programme at five to midnight stating now on Carlton..... and then half way through you would get a Central/Westcountry break bumper and that the ident predceding the next programme would also have changed!!!! It would make ridiculous viewing.

The names, idents and branding will all change from 06:00:00 at the earliest and be announced during GMTV bulletins!!! First ident 09:25:00!!! Case closed!

But they aren't franchise takeovers. They have to happen at midnight. But Carlton can do the changeover whenever it is conveniant - if it is happening at all. The change from Westcountry to Carlton happened at 9.25

Think about it - just because something 'officially' changes at midnight, doesn't mean you're going to suddenly get idents, bump-breakers etc.

The way I interpret it is as follows:

1) the names officially change at 0:00... BUT
2) the names/idents/bumpbreakers/trailers etc aren't used until 9:25.

Anyway, what if Carlton hand over control to the nighttime sustaining service at midnight? Carlton would have officially changed the names but the continuity is 'national' so they'd just be using "ITV" anyway.

You are 100% correct, Chris go and shove it where the sun don't shine, it's what i've been trying to tell you, the name officially changes at 0:00 and the new on screen graphics - of all types are introduced at 9:25.

I can't agree more! This is exactly what i've been saying all along. I see you have taken a step down of what you were originally saying hence you are now agreeing with me.

Thank you and goodnight :)

Oh chr-ist, who gives a shit about all this!! This is a *rumour*, geddit, one anonymous person says it's true, backed up by my reporting hear-say at Tyne Tees and all of a sudden it's going to happen, and you all have a massive row about something which might not even take place?!?!? Am I missing something here??

All I can go by is what happened when the C3NE name was dropped from TT, the only comparable event to have happened. The changeover was at 9.25. There was no announcement on the local news on GMTV. However some text pages changed during late evening the night before and continuity was nameless (they just shoved up a programme rundown slide before The South Bank Show and went direct into the programme). Maybe that's how Carlton will handle it, maybe not. But the fact is that Carlton WILL change the names back, if only because when they merge with either Granada or United (the Granada-United merger is extremely unlikely) the names will have to be changed then anyway, might as well do it properly. October the first is a very likely and reliable rumour, but nothing more.

Or does someone know something I don't?

Or when C3NE was introduced or when Westcountry and Central became Carlton

No, this is not the same. Changing the names back will be a very low-key affair, Carlton will want to quietly drop the rebranding, much as Granada did two years ago.

I believe that the Carlton identities will now remain and United will get rid of the [itv] from thier stations and replace it with a small 'un' logo....watch this space...or a tv...even!
