It has, but they still shouldn't have changed the name.

Has it? why? what has changed apart from a few different idents here and there? And that the anno now says "Serving the westcountry - your watching Carlton"?!?!?!?

There is very little difference in the output!!!

Very reminiscent of "You're watching Tyne Tees Television broadcasting on Channel 3 in the North East".

Meaningless statement really.

...and look what happened to them... the only reason C3NE lasted as long as it did was that Granada took a while to gobble up YTV...

Ironically I think that what Carlton have done to Central and Westy is the best thing that could have happened. Carlton will be forced into an embarrasing climbdown sooner or later (I have heard from my insider at TT that it will be October the first, btw) and then the idea of killing off the regional names of ITV will surely be dead and buried for at least the next 5 years. ITV must realise that a single ITV company would be far larger than Sky (particularly if they also own On-Digital), and will almost certainly be forced into splitting into a broadcaster and a programme-producer. The best way for any new "ITV plc" to avoid this is to leave regionality much as it is. I can't see it changing all that much.

One of the original promises of digital was that there would be an ITV network (on channel 3) and new regional only services on the digital platform. Is this finally going to happen after several years of promises and mergers?
