In general I agree about these shows not needing a presenter, but I actually think Deayton is one of the less irritating examples, compared to Norden, Wogan and Beadle.
And he is rather excellent on HIGNFY, so perhaps he can be forgiven the crapness of all his other shows.
I say the crapness of the other shows makes up for the even-worseness of HIGNFY.
Seems a little harsh.
I enjoyed his jumping jew of jerusalem in first blackadder series!

But did you really understand it?
No - but Deayton is usually pretty funny and/or personable. He was fab on the Uncyclopaedia of Rock. (Desperate plug for now defunct thread - I'm still looking for anyone who's heard of/owns any of this excellent radio series...)
Well - that's another thread I've killed stone dead with me Uncyclopaedia of Rock crazy talk... When will I learn?
The sound effects are what did it for me with the JJoJ, but I wasn't one of the audience who didn't understand it, no.
Anyway, I was recently in the audience for one of the HIGNFY episodes (the one with Angela Ripon) and I have to say that it was totally excellent - they film about 1.5 hours which obviously gets edited down to 30 minutes and pretty much all of it was funny with Angus being surprising spontaneous at times.

*wheezing* Sorry, just got here... Uncyclopaedia Of Rock, you say? Why yes, I've heard of it. Got the book, mate, although it's nothing to e-mail home about. The funniest thing in it was the name of a non-existent punk band (Liquid Penguin). I never heard the series, but I presume the show's format allowed Philip "Theme Music By" Pope ample opportunity to demonstrate his musical mimicking skills. The programme is (faintly) notable for the fact that it brought together most of the Radio Active team for the first time, in the days when Capital Radio actually bothered to produce stuff like this.
I think Deayton's underrated as a performer (in his presenter persona, though, sod One Foot In The Wossname), but WAY too satisfied with himself as a presenter. IMHO.
Anyone here got an opinion? *ducks for cover*
Sorry, I've just realised my last paragraph came out as complete Neil Armstrong gibberish. Take two: pretending to be a presenter on KYTV, he was boss; actually being a presenter on HIGNFY, he's wack.
Later, homes.
Yo!
Yeah I'd go along with that, Alan. And thanks for replying... Still looking for copies of UOR tho'
I've only seen the book. It was really good, I thought. There's a bit where they've found a picture of the Beatles lined up with a load of extras from one of their films, so they make out this depicts the full '15 Beatles'... hmm, wonder if Lee&Herring have seen that...
