Journalists know nothing Posted Sat Jul 1 18:07:32 BST 2000 by Justin

How about examples of journalists who constantly write down words/phrases they don't understand or opinions which they clearly can't substantiate?

No. 1
"Dysfunctional" - as in "The Simpsons epitomise the modern dysfunctional American family.

Always written by journalists who mistake lively argument for sheer hatred. If The Simpsons were that screwed up, they'd have fallen apart years ago. See also The Royle Family.

'So-called' is a particular bugbear of mine as in 'this so-called government' IT IS THE GOVERNMENT - THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT'S CALLED. It might be bad, indifferent, but 'government' is what we call it. 'The BBC's so-called new schedule', 'England's so-called football team' etc etc - it pisses me off.

I also read a review of Blade Runner that refers to Scott's 'nightmarish vision of an overpopulated future.' The fact that the Earth in Blade Runner is *under* populated due to mass emigration clearly escaped the reviewer's notice, even though this is central to the plot of the film.

Movie Reviews - By Barry Moron (From the Radio Times)

Blade Runner is a great film, even though its not a Western, and is full of unrealistic monsters and things. Ridley Scott's dysfunctional, nightmarish vision of a so-called overpopulated future contains a gritty portrayal of a down-trodden Private eye (Ford) who dreams of electric sheep. Or something. To be honest i haven't seen the film, but my daughter, Emma, told me it was too scary for the children, and made no sense.

1 out of 5 - is the score i would probably give if i wasn't such a bumbling old git whose inconclusive reviews never really give any information. Thanks to Sky.
