1. TSW
2. HTV Arial
3. TVS Flower
Yorkshire TV at the beginning of "321", when the big gold Y whooshed in a big circle leaving a trail of stardust...
yeah - that flying YTV was a cracker - as a kid I used to watch 321 just for that - although having seen it recently the impenetrable clues are unintentional comedy genius. I think as far as regular logos go the LWT 'College scarf' wins it hands down. Southern's 'compass' was pretty good, and Anglia's knight a triumphant piece of tat.
... oh, and what about the Thames logo before Morecambe and Wise came on? 'Here they are now/Morecambe and Wise' (shame the shows were so poor compared to the BBC ones.)
The 80's [T][W][O] ident. Hey, a classic! Sorry, im dead vain.
if we're on to BBC idents then the rotating globe BBC Colour ident takes some beating.
I suspect I'm alone in liking the new BBC2 idents then...but hey, I like my own company!
Woo-ha! Woo-ha! Woo-ha! Woo-ha! etc.
Definitely Ulster Television's silver lollypop!
Didn't the old B/W Ulster logo feature a kind of line graph with very ambient music. And almost off the subject, didn't Frank Carson do some ads promoting Ulster in the 70s/80s?
What about that mad strobing Harlech logo, before Harlech became HTV.
I think that joint first place would have to go to Thames 1992 logo which is a classic and the TSW 1st logo circa 1982.
in my opinion the music and graphics were perfect with the Thames 1992 which hasn't dated ...yet.
And the music with the TSW ident still has quite a unique sound.
1) The 80's Channel 4 ident. Best computer graphics to date.
2) 80's watch strap style 2 ident
3) T W O (late 80's)
4) BBC 1 colour (70's-80's)
What about clocks? My favourites are Scottish TV, early 80's, Channel 4, 80's, and 70's-80's BBC 2 clocks.
It's weird how BBC2 was reffered to as "2" in the 80's.
>What about clocks? My favourites are Scottish TV, early 80's,
My favourite clocks? Hmmm lets see...
TVS with the coloured stripes. Incidentally, in the first few months the tag at the bottom said either TVS South or TVS South East depending where you were watching of course.
Anglia with the giant knight next to it was also a good one. And of course HTV's with the shuddering second hand.
What did the STV clock look like in the early 80s. I take it you mean the era of the blue STV rather than the post-1985 Bertie Bassett?
Dan F - i hope you mean the famous blue Htv clock with the judder and not the really naff beige one that was rarely seen unless everything went down hence the clock came up....
>Definitely Ulster Television's silver lollypop!
Yeah, it was good. I'd also rate TVS (silver rotating thing), Anglia (Flag), Thames (reflection), LWT (rivers), HTV (Aerial thing)
