>If you hate Carlton. Leave your comments here and we will show them to Carlton's boss and the ITC in September.

I wouldn't say Carlton was completely hopeless. It's almost there but it does have the odd programme worth watching. The Bill (although I don't really ever watch it) isn't any worse than any other cop drama. If you're desperate, it's watchable (I'd rather watch The Bill than sport.) And Coronation Street is definitely superior to Brookside (not a hard I know.) Having said that, I certainly agree with you that 98% of its output is pure dross. There are far too many game shows and poor quality dramas. I don't know who their target audience is but, I should imagine, it's probably 58 plus. Being senile or illiterate would probably help add to your enjoyment too.
Good luck with Carlton's boss. I think everyone would certainly welcome the quality being cranked up. This isn't lowbrow, it's a facking moustache.
Oh I forgot. Welcome back Suii and John! I hope Suii had a lovely holiday (not too drunk too often. I wouldn't like to think that your only memories are contained in photographs.) Where did you go John? Did you go on holiday too?

Carlton only has a minority (though large minority) say in ITV as a whole. What are its locla progs like?
Apart from a fondness for Thames, is Carlton really that bad? Would Thames have been much better?

Compared to Tyne Tees, the Tyne Tees ones are the best shows on Television.
There was actually recently a really good show called something like Hidden London, Secret London or something made by the London News Network. Adam Heart-Davis wandering around places you're unlikely to have seen while walking London. Quite interesting and in fact so good, they showed it on Westcountry too...
I think that last part sums up what they think of the South West.

Thanks Richard. Make that 99% dross then.
I really resent carlton for many reasons:
1) They took away our regional identity when they dumped all regional branding in favour of 'Carlton' in all the regions they own.
2)They robbed the network of Thames the best programme maker ever.
3)They broadcast sub-standard regional programming in London, and now show 'Wheel of fortune' at 5.30...Need I say more?

The ITC isn't happy. They may be forced to 'rethink'

You can't really blame Carlton - they had the best bid in terms of the legislation. The fact that the legislation was flawed and did not take into account what the company produced for the network isn't really Carlton's fault. Thames bid low iirc because they thought Carlton wouldn't meet the 'quality threshold'. It did.

This isn't fair to Londoners to be honest. 5.30 should be earmarked as a time when franchisees HAVE to show regional programmes.
Here is what each region is showing today:
Anglia: Town and Country - Bryan McNerney and Sarah Beecroft tour the region visiting locations of interest and meeting colourful characters.
Border: Shortland Street - Eva goes into theatre and Awhi decides to stay with Rangi. Tiffany finds her feelings for Johnny are shared by Susie and Dan is thrilled when Liz offers to join him on his trip.
Carlton, Central, Grampian, HTV Wales, HTV West, Scottish : Wheel of Fortune - John Leslie hosts the popular game show, ably assisted by Jenny Powell, as three contestants spin the wheel in the hope of winning £2,000.
Tyne Tees: North East Tonight.
UTV: UTV Life and Weather - Daily magazine focusing on the latest issues affecting life in Northern Ireland.
Yorkshire: Tonight Dr Bill Laughey discusses the benefits of vegetarianism, Georgey Spanswick meets a North Yorkshire woman who has opened her garden to the public and Cy Chadwick appeals for help in creating a millennium garden for special needs children
So, Full Marks to Granada Group (except LWT on Fridays), Anglia, Meridian and UTV for doing something local.
Channel can't be expected to do much local stuff, but the rest should hang their heads in shame. I'm not sure which is worse though, Wheel of Fortune or Shortland Street? At least in Scotland WoF is slightly local.
Channel, Meridian: The Village - Terry makes the biggest gamble of his life, while Phillip and Lyn receive earth-shattering news. Dave the plumber is on tenterhooks as he anxiously awaits a call from the police.
Granada: Granada Tonight (till 6.30) - The latest news, sport and features from around the region
>You can't really blame Carlton - they had the best bid in terms of the legislation.
In theory that is true but the itc still could have give thames exceptional circumstances.
I bet they wish they had now...

In HTV's defence, they have been showing regional programmes such as Money Spinners at 5:30, but as this series ended recently, they started showing Wheel of Fortune.
You can't blame Scottish TV for showing Wheel of fortune - after all, they made it.
I HATE CARLTON!!!

Carlton makes none of the obove programmes. They are all on the ITV network which Carlton is part of.
Carlton makes... um... Carlton makes... what does Carlton make? Oh yeah, there's Kiss Me Kate on BBC ONE, and I think that's it.

Hey you there's nothing at all wrong with Tyne Tees' regional output :)
Does Carlton actually make any proper local programming? Last time I was down there the only regional programming I saw was endless fly-on-the-wall docs which were clearly just the off-cuts that were not good enough for the network or stuff really made for Carlton's cable channels. Sadly I found over the 2 years I was in Nottingham Central went from being a proud regional company to the same wet rubbish as Carlton.
Tyne Tees' programmes might be low-budget at times but they are only small after all and at least they are regional in flavour and context.

It's functional and does it's job well. They are just not great shows!

Appart from the one programme I mentioned about hidden parts of London, most of the Carlton regional programmes fit into this category. Sad isn't it?
Their low budgetness really shows on one show I heard about which was a sort of whatson guide thing - presented by two people in a radio studio with a camera looking down on them... Hmm...
LWT on the other hand go more lightweight - one of their regional shows was one aboiut food in London. There is also an alarming increase in joint LWT/Granada programmes and also LWT/Granada/Yorkshire/Tyne Tees programmes which tends to make the end of show copyright statement just a tad long.
>>Hey you there's nothing at all wrong with Tyne Tees' regional output :)
And it still makes decent networked programmes such as Top 100 Tv Moments for Channel Four!
I had to keep this thread going!
