Don't know much except that I have what are (allegedly) screenshots of the titles on my site - here comes the shameless plug......

Cunningly hidden under the DTT Channel Guide, then onto BBC ONE.
>Cunningly hidden under the DTT Channel Guide, then onto BBC ONE.
Very cunning - now, while I'm on the page, I'd have to say that I don't think it would really matter if the Newsline colours were the same as the English regions. I don't really think they are orange and even if Newsline did use orange, we're not *that* sensitive!
Anyway, Orange isn't officially significant in Northern Ireland as the flag is mainly red and white. The NI football team plays in Green, Blue and white (I think!), not that this would have had any significance to those doing the colour scheme.
Wales also has a differenet theme to English regions (with pips iirc making it unique).
I'm sorry for it being so difficult to track down, I've only just re-engineered the site - but otherwise, what do you think?
Thanks for the info on Newsline - I still think it's significant that orange (as in orangemen, orange order, William of.. etc) not appearing in NI is significant and I'd have to write something else unsupported if I deleted it!
Otherwise - has anyone else looked at the site in detail? What do you think?
The different colours for the nations I think is just that - regional branding. The English regions have the same brand - the four nations each have their own branding. I'm sure if Scotland had two news programmes for the country, they'd each use the same colours.
Each nation is seperate in a way (management wise) so each nation has it's own style. It just so happens that England has lots of programmes all with the same look and feel, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have one programme.
That's how I see it anyway. Whether it's the true picture is another matter
Also, since the late 1980s, green has been BBC NI's official colour, blue for BBC Scotland, and red for BBC Wales. The new title sequences for Newsline, Reporting Scotland and Wales Today follow these colour schemes.

Coming back to Brekkie News - the titles look a bit similar in colour to the current titles. I hope they don't just keep the same music. They must be able to come up with another arangement - after all they've kept the titles in a similar style since 1983!
Why not bring back that twirly sunrise thing they had then too!?
The original Breakfast Time music (which was fantastic) included the jingle which matched the swirly sun logo. People who got up early for the start of the programme were rewarded with the very sinister extended version, full of ominous foreboding.
This music was dropped when BT was relaunched 1986, and the new version was kept on for Breakfast News. It was rearranged in 1993 for the new look BBC News. There was a special extended version of this theme music used on important occasions (general elections etc.)
The 1997 revamp of Breakfast News introduced another theme music, which is a bit disappointing if you ask me! As far as I am aware, there isn't an extended version of this theme.
The regional inserts to Breakfast Time had generic sets, with the swirly sun and the name of the region in the corner of the screen. Most regions had special Breakfast News sets after 1989, but some (including Northern Ireland) used their normal regional opt-out backdrop.
After 1993 the idea that the regional inserts were 'Breakfast News in the...' was dropped, and all regions used their own branding.
Will the new programme have regional inserts? And will they stay as they are, or get special Breakfast sets?

The original 1983 and 1986 tunes did have similarities - if you can get a copy of both, listen to the rhythm. duh duh duh duh duh-duh.
Also, compare the 'into regional news' tune on the current breakfast news with the 1983 tune. Very similar.
1983 duh-duh-duh

I seem to remember the regional opt-outs being one of the main concerns about bringing the BBC ONE and BBC News 24 coverage together. They will remain on BBC ONE. What NEWS24 will do I can't say. A nice idea would be a sort of 'round the regions' stories type thing that way they could just link to the opt outs saying "And now a look at the news across the country" or something and then News 24 could take a look at some of the bigger stories from the regions or something. It would all link nicely.
But then I don't work for BBC News so I don't know what they're actually going to do - but thats what I would do! Either that or have a long countdown...

a la UK Today? That already happens on BBC DSat in England. The last time I saw it there were short UK Today Titles at the very start of the 'opt-out' and again before the whole country rejoined
Sorry the 1983/current comparison should have appeared:

Rubbish!!
1983:
Bah-ba-bah-ba-bah-ba-ba-ba-bah
1986:
Dah-dah-dah-da-da-da
Dah-dah-dah-da-da-da
Dah-dah-dah-da-da-dah!
1997:
Dah-dah-dah
Dah!
It's obvious!!

A sort of UK Today system but with the bullitens only being short, there would be no need for seperate presenters/sets etc.
From Monday BTW, UK Today will be relaunching. They're moving the set to sit opposite the main news studio and will no longer be simulcast on News 24. Newsroom South East viewers might also recognise the presenter - Martine Croxall.

It stikes me as odd that they didn't have UK Today repeated on BBC World to give ex-pats a bit of UK News.
There is a sample of some Breakfast Time music from 1983 on the internet somewhere.
If I can't find it I will sit down in front of a piano and work out the notes so I can prove it to you!
:-)
I have all the versions on video! The 'into regional news' music are different for each of the three themes!!!
The original BT theme music was upbeat but stylish, and the BT/BN music was strident and newsy. There are certain similarities (particularly if you compare the extended versions of each) but the original was very much a sting, while the second was much more of a complete tune.
There were a number of variations of the 1986 theme used as stings for headlines, and the intros to sport, paper reviews, business and also the closing theme. I preferred the original 1986 arrangement to the 1993 electric guitar version.
Sadly the current BN theme is just a damp squib...
And now that I come to think of it, the 'into regional news' themes can be heard on my website:

Err... They're exactly the same...
Interestingly if you look around, you'll see they were involved with some of the globes too.
The clips on my site are taken from the SVC site - It was mentioned on this forum somewhere
That was me who mentioned the SVC site :o)
Anyway, the clips on your site are exactly the same?! What do you mean REAL clips?
