Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be... Posted Sat Jun 24 22:38:27 BST 2000 by Ewar Woowar

...cringing behind the sofa as Mel and Sue embarrass themselves on Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes (if their rendition of "Bye Bye Baby" on the last Light Lunch is anything to go by...)

Any guesses as to who they're going to be? I reckon it'll be Mel and Kim. "Respectabawll..."

I was dumbfounded to see them on the trailer. What are they trying to do to themselves?

Well?

I thought they did pretty well, actually. Sue seemed to be doing a fair impression, whereas Mel appeared to be just singing as well as she could...I wasn't cringing behind the sofa, anyway. But I *did* laugh when they came through the doors! Harder than I've ever laughed at Mel & Sue, in fact...

Anyone else think Sue looked a bit like Rosanna Arquette in that wig?

Mel did look uncannilly like Barbara Dickson - but it's just not the same without Ronnie Corbett introducing. (Oh dear, I really should get out more on Saturday nights)

I can't really say I'm sorry I missed it.

It's just the next stage in their slide from excellent, respectable talents to ITV embarrassments.

When were they good? I've never seen anything before Late/Light Lunch, I don't think. I'd be interested to know what they did when they were just starting out.
From what I've seen of their career, all they do is tell bad jokes "ironically", as if knowing you're bad is some kind of excuse.

They did some late night stuff, as Dutch MTV presenters which was good, Late Lunch was the beginning of a serious slide down, but their live stand-up (although patchy in places) is a very good evenings entertainment.
