Sunday night's television

I cannot contain my anger, I am appalled, absolutely appalled by everything. Last night as far as I am concerned was the last straw. I have never seen anything so filthy and disgusting as the programmes I watched last night. It riles me to even think about it. Standards are dropping all the time and I truly believe we are in a moral decline. I switched from channel to channel and it was an endless stream of sordidness, vile contamination and gross coarseness. I'm not easily shocked, I was a teacher for 35 years and I also worked as a nurse during the war, but last night I was almost driven to tears by the lurid nature of last night's programming. I don't know the kind of trendy young lush you employ but who ever they are they need their mouth washing out with soap. In my day people like that were given bromide to restrain their urges and desires. I don't no when I shall switch my television back on. For the moment I will make do with Radio 3 and 4.
Yours Sincerely
Edna Welthorpe

Hmmm. This is interesting. In the 1960s, a certain J Orton esq. (bachelor of the parish of Islington) wrote a number of complaining letters to various people, signing them all "Edna Welthorpe". Mind, his missives were funny, so I guess that's where the similarity ends.

I CREATED YOU, WHY COULDN'T I DESTROY YOU!
Well, they say each man kills the things he loves, etc.

Dear Channel 4 watch dogs,
I believe I am correct in asserting that Johnny Vaughn has been imprisoned for drug offences. I hardly think the rantings of a criminal suitable for our children's ears. Vaughn has no place on family television. If he wants to encourage people to take drugs then surely this type of programme should be shown after the watershed. We don't all have the luxury of being able to dump our children in expensive drug rehabilitation centres. Come on Channel 4 this isn't good enough. There's a time and place for everything. And the breakfast table is not the place promote drug abuse.
Yours Sincerely
Edna

Reminds me of that 'side-splittingly funny' (i was getting bored of saying hilarious) pastiche of the BB on TFI Friday, where Chris Evans, instead of actually studying Johnny Vaugn to learn any mannerisms or such, just stuck some fake iron bars in front of his face and said 'i've been in jail' lots of times. Because JV always mentions that, doesn't he?
The audience, needless to say, pissed themselves.
