I think it should be set at 3-4 days. I never go above the bottom 10 or so threads. If you look at the very top, threads are being kept alive by twats who like to have "zany" conversations in public.

hey rob, if people dont put their name / nickname , instead of putting "anonymous" can it be made to insert their ip instead :)

Perhaps a maximum length of stay for a subject (3 weeks) regardless of when someone last posted could save us from this hell.If it's that interesting then someone can always start it again.

What about this? The 'main' list contains current topics from the past 4-7 days. Afeter this the strands go into a 'bin', where they can be added to or revived to the main menu if interest is frequent. Therefore we keep old strands yet have an easy access to the current ones?

And IP addresses are useless if you're using a cache.

In fact, they're not much use if you're on dial-up either.

But when I load this page the topic list automatically goes down to the bottom and I just work my way up. So for me it makes sense to have the new topics at the bottom. Does it vary depending on which browser you use?

Yeah, this forum should be exclusively for red names and their friends. Then the sparks would really fly!

And not a month ago people were pressuring poor Mr Sedgebeer into putting new topics at the bottom of the list rather than the top. You can't please any of these bastards, Rob. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that this forum works just fine. Any of you ungrateful goits don't believe me, go and have a shufti at Reach4. Now THAT'S how not to run a forum.
