People Like Us Posted Mon Jun 12 17:53:10 BST 2000 by Justin

Was reading The Guardian this morning, and read some column saying that BBC are pinning their hopes on Chambers because, it says, "People LIke Us" (the last big radio/TV transfer) was such a failure.

Don't agree. PLU was a programme that actually asked its audience to do some work -it took a second viewing to get some of the jokes, though that isn't to say that there weren't nearly enough first time round. Also, getting Chris Langham to be out of shot (except for one accidental moment each week) was a good move, as it made the series beautifully authentic.

Loved the radio show as well, but the TV version a "failure"? Pah. (Does this mean it's not coming back, either?)

Glas to hear that - Some of it was good, some quite duff but successfully was accessible to a reasonaboy wide audience without reverting to being overly bland - Ill hope that a second series is not rushed and hence poorer
