For the attention of those who believe the Corpses to be bitter old men Posted Sat Jun 10 20:23:46 BST 2000 by Kip

Right,

To all the people who have been making snide remarks about the motivation of 'the corpses' and the reasons for the content of this site:

The Corpses are NOT failed comedy writers or performers.

They are fans, in the same way that i presume most people who take an interest in the site are fans. And like many comedy fans, myself included, they are disillusioned with the current state of the comedy world. This was only too apparent going through this years Edinburgh Fringe guide, when I could find all of 7 shows which I would actually pay money to see.

I have read the entire site and, while I do not agree with 100% of the opinion contained therein, I found the arguments for their case well thought out, researched and articulated.
The truth is that criticism in any way, shape or form seems to be greeted with suspicion and disdain, in an industry where backslapping and power games appear to have become the norm.

When this forum was first converted from the old TV forum there was a lot of reasonable and relevant debate and for the most part this is still true.

However it sickens me to see people stooping to the pathetic level of personal abuse of the authors, just because their particular opinion has been challenged and they are unable to come up with any suitable retaliation.
Apart from anything, this will hardly endear anybody to your cause. If you were to come up with a decent argument, fine. But resorting to the sneering 'you're just jealous because these people are in the comedy business and you have failed to accomplish that' is the sort of argument I would expect to hear in a playground.

And, to be honest, I would have expected better than that from anybody who would have an interest in this kind of site.

And at least this place really lets you have your say, not like other TV forums who censor you at the merest hint of criticism.

I hope the discreditors also remember that this page just highlights personal opinions. For everything Corpses is negative about, there is bound to be a website somewhere which is positive about it. It's the way of the world.

If you don't agree with what they say, then feel free to show your own opinion in this forum - that's what it's here for. But there's no point in launching a personal attack against a group of people.

In fairness, the majority of people who've had a serious go at The Corpses have seemingly moved on anyway. A couple of regulars (myself included) have had a sly dig every now and again, but I don't think we were trying to be offensive - I certainly wasn't. The only really serious trouble I've noticed on the whole forum was that bloke who seemed to be itching to pick a fight with Richard Herring.

Sincere question though: when you were setting the site up, did you expect to get the flak you got from certain people?

What about the Sally Phillips Wars? I was there...

I agree with most of what The Corpses write, but I have made comments myself about them probably being failed writers/performers (because I would honestly be amazed if they hadn't at least had a go).

As far as 'personal abuse' goes, however, I think the Corpses dished out a fair bit of that with their 11OCS comments. I was never a fan of the show, I'm just noting the things written elsewhere in this site. Look it up yourself.

I can assure you they haven't...

I doubt they're bothered by the 'personal abuse', but when someone makes a comment about them being failed comedy writers/whatever, too many people seem to be willing to believe it - presumably as a form of self-preservation, to protect *their* world. With their limited net access it's incredibly difficult for the corpses to defend themseleves.

Not very well put, sorry...

Forgot that - yes, I read all that Talkback producer nonsense.

Can't we have a whip round to change this situation?

I've got an old modem they can have...
