It's an American expression, so we went for the American spelling. Incidentally, the official name for the character, according to Mr Bhasker, is 'Mr Shit With Women'.

Hmm, that seems a little weak in my opinion. I'd never considered it an American expression. Isn't it just what you say in a restaurant when you want the cheque...? And it's not performed or written by Americans so, I stand by my original post.

God, you're right! Obviously you say bill please normally. Thanks for pointing that out. So simple I missed it completely! Ugh, what a stupid phrase. Stick with Check then to ensure its American connection and distance it from the Uk :o)

I thought check was american for bill and also cheque.
