Carlton/Central Continuity Posted Thu Jun 8 22:39:30 BST 2000 by Steve

I've noticed over the past few weeks changes with the announcing team at
Carlton/Central. Andy Marriott seems to have disappeared as does another
male voice. All we seem to have at present are basically three announcers
including a new female voice.

I read somewhere about changes with Carlton Presentation - I wonder if the
midlands region is streamlining it's announcing team?

One male announcer on Sunday appeared to be working all day and his voice
was the first to be heard again at 9.25 this morning - however in the next
link it was the new female voice! Surely we're not having 'recorded'
announcements?!?!?!?!?

Central Anno's now work 12 hour shifts from 12 'til 12 - so yes they record and opening link for the following day. Not all that bad surely!?

Oh dear. That's exactly what YTV did to Tyne Tees in 1993. Have recorded announcements/YTV ones/none at all from 12-12, then have only 2 on-duty announcers employed. What happened? A couple of years down the line the b*st*rds killed off our announcers. It'll happen the same way to Central. Just you watch.

i think LWT are the only ITV station that don't have recorded annocers because I remember that when you've been framed broke down at the beggining (thank god) and that woman said " we apologise for the break down in you've been framed we will try to get it back shortly" then worst luck it appeared again

Many of the stations still have live continuity anno's!

LWT don't employ an announcer for their overnight service. But Carlton do, there's irony for you!

Granada use live presenters, yet them sometimes use presenters for YTv and TTTV on their service, e.g. Granada 2nite.
Last week the bloke made a f*** up by saying not remembering the date, 'good morning and welcome to Granada on the ermm, Trisha now"
they kept getting G2nite wrong as well stupid arses.
oh yeah, i complained to the itc about carlton as well and i urge everyone else to do the same.

So, Granada are back to having their own announcers. When are YTV and Tyne Tees getting unique announcers as well? Don't hold your breath...

They are getting there. A couple of days ago, a bloke was heard on TT, then the next announcement was made by a woman, and the one after that by the same bloke. Completely different announcements were heard on YTV though, and they were not recorded either. I think they were testing the system out.

Interesting. That would explain why they spent tens of thousands of pounds on some time-delay technology, and are no longer using it. Obviously it didn't work, and they now have some other mechanism. Probably to get Border on-line from Leeds, no doubt...

I've noticed that HTV have gone back to using continuity announcers with Welsh accents instead of ones that sound like Carlton announcers.

HTV Cardiff have always had their own continuity. It's Bristol that lost theirs in February to Meridian Southampton (who also do Anglia). At least their announcers aren't as bad as the dreaded CARLtON.

Having a look at the Carlton website. why the hell are they using the slogan 'a talent for televsion', Thames used this before they shut down...What gives Carlton the right to steal it?
Twats...but...pearson are supposed to be bidding for any franchise when it next becomes available, i would love to see carlton outbidded by Thames...ah!

The Carlton Announcer 'johnny banana' was referring to is Mark Lipscomb - he was indeed an announcer at Thames before they lost the London contract. Incidentally,
Mark Lipscomb also reads the Central News South at weekends.

I live up in central land and it would be great if Carlton lost their contract for london, it'd be great if they lost it for every where. When they first rebranded central for the first few days they used Carlton announcers and then changed them back. BBC Use live announcers though i'm pretty certain. I'm new here at the forum tonight and your hatred for carlton is amazing, but after reading it I say KILL CARLTON.

Before renaming both Central and Westcountry did westcountry at about april '98 change their logo for a coloured background with coloured writing with some sort of 2d animation, cos that's what they changed central to (which i thanked them for they needed a new 'logo') and i think they did the same for Carlton, from looking at the end of programs, but i can't recall seeing the end of a westcountry program and noting the logo.

Carlton are nobs, but there is nothing you can do about it. The ITC dont give a shit, so things will remain as is, unless Granada get their own way - but even then, it will just be GRANADA [London], GRANADA [Central] ...etc.....

No, Westcountry didn't get the gradual Carltonisation that Central received. Just the 3d Westcountry one day, then rudely awakened the next day with "Good morning! You're watching CARLtON!" My aunt in Cornwall spat her false teeth out so quickly, they killed her Yorkie dog, Muppet. CARLTON ARE MURDERERS!

Just imagine if Carlton did buy Arsenal FC a while back. They would have renamed the team Carlton FC mid-season, change the club logo into a wonky star, and re-christened Highbury as Carlton Stadium or something equally stupid.

I don't think so - that doesn't make any sense whatsoever! What has c-day (commercials in 16-9 from 1st July) got to do with Announcers?

I don't think so

The only changes you'll likely to see are (a) the commercials txd in 16:9 (AFD 6) and (b) the break bumpers also txd in 16:9. Everything else will be as before.

That doesn't mean that things will run smoothly, of course ...

Since Carlton took over Central News has gone really down hill.
It is covering places that aren't in the Central region! I only really see Central East News (I'm in Coventry) and can't comment on the other sub-regions but if they are like Central East they need to change. Central East still don't even mention Coventry City Football Club- even though we were placed in the East region a month ago!

I got a special aerial put up just so I could watch Central (for better local news) as I live in Henley-on-Thames and Carlton London is shit for regional programmes.
Central news south is very good, but can at times be a bit pathetic (ESPECIALLY WESLEY SMITH)!

>>WHAT DOES EVERYONE THINK OF CARLTON CENTRAL NEWS?

I'm in Central West - and it covers Birmingham and Worcester, as far as I can see, nowhere else gets a look in.

Having said this, I only watch it cos
Mum has it on when we're having Tea. If I get my way I always watch BBC News, I've given up on ITV news - it's not ITN's fault because my FAVORITE news is Channel Four News - but it's inconveniently late at 7pm, clashes with The Simpsons on Sky One!
