Are there any good TV series based on films? Posted Tue Jun 6 10:09:13 BST 2000 by Al

This came to me while discussing the poor quality Lock Stock series. Apart from MASH - any ideas?

Cagney and Lacey... wasn't a comedy. Oh, I see what you mean.

If anyone knows anyone in the States, might be worth finding out if the animated Clerks series is any cop. (Something in the Guardian last week, when they interviewed Kevin Smith, suggested that it probably wouldn't be.)

Was Doctor In The House any good, then?

you dont have to listen to them - wait for your own mental jury to return.
I didnt notice it being crap last week. I will watch tonights before making further judgements. Last weeks plot was pretty identical to the film though. If they do that every week with different shotguns/horses/klashnikovs etc it will be shit cos the plot will be the same every week.

I used to quite like the American Max Headroom series, which used the characters from the '20 Seconds Into The Future' movie, but that movie was made for TV in the first place, so does it count? Haven't seen it since I was about 14 or 15 anyway, so it may have been cack (I was even more easily pleased back then than I am now!).

Someone at work today was talking with great fondness about the TV remake of Billy Liar in the early 70s with Jeff Rawle (later of Drop the Dead Donkey) and George A Cooper (later the caretaker in Grange Hill). I don't remember it though - does anyone?

Buffy's fantastic, but watch 'La Femme Nikita' for a really shit one. What would be the best hypothetical one? I'm thinking '2001- the series' or perhaps even 'Salo: The 120 Days of Sodom- the series'
