Yeah, I think it's alright, and it's good to see David Baddiel on TV again.
I've seen (or heard, rather) better freeform comedy than that but it's not a bad half hour's viewing.
I only saw it last night(Tue 30). It was OK. You could tell Skinner was working through a load of ideas for stand-up routines that he hadn't written fully yet, but I suppose that's all they could do. Also, they didn't cop out and have filmed inserts/sub-Morris street interviews, which is what I was half expecting.
Also, did you notice that the opening credits were a piss-take of the Fat Les 'Vindaloo' vid?
I thought it was great. It certainly puts Barratt & Fielding's improvisational 'genius' into perspective, that's for sure.
It's been quite good, Mondays was very funny, probably just cos of that odd fella with the beard, but the lads work very well together.
I saw Wednesday show, which was OK, but i was disturbed to see the audience member dragged on stage getting the biggest laugh.
Also, when did Baddiel learn to play a musical instrument? And why has he never shown this talent before? (Or have i just missed him before)
The jokes are quite good, although i'm sure i've got a Frank Skinner video somewhere from about 5 years ago where he used similar jokes to last night.
The format appears a bit dodgy and cheap though. Still, if ITV paid me and my friend lots of money to sit on a couch, i'm sure we could think of something funny to say.
Couldn't everyone?
He played the piano quite often in 'Newman and Baddiel In Pieces', there was quite a funny sketch where Rob Newman was trying to write a piece of music, and Dave made it sound like 'Roll Out The Barrel'!
Thanks for the help Suiii.
I noticed in my last posting i said i had seen Wednesday Show. This is obviously impossible, unless i have developed a time machine. I, of course, meant i had seen Tuesday episode. Sorry for any confusion caused.
Darn! I was going to ask if I could borrow it so I could go back in time to witness the birth of my hero, Bob Carolgees!
Anyone who wants a bit of freeform comedy might wanna have a look at http://www.nickabbot.com
There, I've done it - Given the site a plug! But I don't care cos I'm off to Asia in a few hours and I won't have regular net access there, hehe
SHAME ITV AIN'T MAKING A NEW SERIES OF BADDIEL & SKINNER FOR EURO 2000 THAT WAS GOOD BACK IN 96 AND PREHAPS IF THEY HAD STAYED AT THE BBC THEY WOULD HAVE GOT MORE SERIES ANYWAY I THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD AND THE REASON IT WASN'T MADE BY CARLTON
What killed 'Fantasy Football' for me was the tedious droning on about football.
>What killed 'Fantasy Football' for me was the tedious droning on about football.
I am not a big football fan, but I thought the show was great. Remember the first two series where they didn't have Jeff (Geoff?) Astle, but had the opening theme tune with the following words:
Fan-taaa
sy Football League
Fan-ta-sy
Football league Fan-ta-sy.
Foot-ball
League Fantasy
Football League
Fantasy Football League.
Or something like that.
>if ITV paid me and my friend lots of money to sit on a couch, i'm sure we could think of something funny to say.
>
>Couldn't everyone?
Of course not. Chances are that if someone sat you on a couch with your mate and instructed you to be funny for half an hour you would have shot yourself in shame within twenty minutes. Not everyone is funny. (I know it's rather bizarre to have to point that out, but apparently it needed saying.)
"If Channel 4 paid me lots of money to go out into the street and interview people, I'm sure I could think of something funny to say. Couldn't everybody?"
I. Lee 1999
>Remember the first two series where they didn't have Jeff (Geoff?) Astle, but had the opening theme tune...
Yeah, but at the beginning of the show Frank would sing a "comedy" topical song about the week's footballing events to the tune of "Back Home" - it was abysmal. In fact the whole first series was rather poor compared to later ones, it was the novelty that got them the second series, not the quality.
> "If Channel 4 paid me lots of money to go out into the street and interview people, I'm sure I could think of something funny to say. Couldn't everybody?"

*Titter!*
Unplanned has steadily improved over the week and compared to ITV's usual 10.30 scrapped up dirt pasted off as TV it is a complete classic
>"If Channel 4 paid me lots of money to go out into the street and interview people, I'm sure I could think of something funny to say. Couldn't everybody?"
>I. Lee 1999
Dear God no, don't tell me Ian really said that? Please?
Of course, i was being sarcastic in my comments (I am an extremely sarcastic person, so watch out.), but i'm glad you could point out what makes Baddiel and Skinner popular: the fact you can tell they are real 'friends', and not just
two celebraties thrown together because ITV think it'll work.
"Robson and Thaw - Unplanned". I can see it now...
>(I am an extremely sarcastic person, so watch out.)
<hides behind sofa>
How about 'Donovon and Lee Unplanned' - Daisy Donovon and Iain Lee attempt to amuse millions of people, entirely without the use of a decent script.. oh, hang on...
>How about 'Donovon and Lee Unplanned' - Daisy Donovon and Iain Lee attempt to amuse millions of people, entirely without the use of a decent script.. oh, hang on...
Yeah, and they'd talk about any subject as long as it was(n't) wanking. Excellent idea.
Returning briefly to Baddiel's prowess on the piano, he played it in MWE aswell - as Richard Stillnotdead, with his terrible political songs.
Richard Stilgoe wrote the lyrics for Andrew Lloyd-Webber's worldwide smash hit show 'Starlight Express'.
Just thought I'd mention that, in a neutral sort of way. No comment to make about it.
'Richard Stillnotdead' (who was decapitated by Ivan the presenter[Rob Newman]) was brilliantly accurate, however. Must be why Stilgoe hasn't been booked to appear on TV since... when was it?
Last time I can actually remember seeing Stilgoe on TV (not counting Countdown appearances) was some Amnesty benefit highlights show on C4. But that was late 80s - it must have been ages ago, as it featured Rory McGrath in a "performing" capacity.
re: last night show - why are Itv so concerned about people using the f-word. especially considering the show was on a 10:30. both BBC amd channel 4 have shown programmes that contain that word in as early as 9:00 (witness The Cops), and C4 deicated a whole show to it. So what is ITV's problem.
And don't even get me started on the C-word. Christ they're only collections of letters.
They're prettey meaningless without cultural references and associated codes and conventions blah blah blah
That Laurie the Lesbian is *really* scaring me. A lot.

Wasn't it David Baddiel who made this very point on the Mary Whitehouse Experience by introducing the audience to the word "felch", explaining what it meant, and then using it over and over? The point being that the word's meaning is so much worse than that of the word "fuck", yet the word itself itsn't considered to be worse.
Re: Richard Stilgoe at an Amnesty concert
Why didn't he do the decent thing, and offer to be swapped for some political prisoner rotting in a tyrant's torture cell?
I bet the prisoner would have written some really biting songs about his government...
that was funny last night especially with that man\woman. This is the funniest thing on ITV for a long time the reason is it is not made by carlton
The opening titles:
Are they filmed outside the Wimbledon Theatre? Looks like it, especially as it looks like Wimbledon Odeon cinema in the distance at one point.
The series is definatly getting better, and is easily the best thing on ITV (discuss)
I think it's probably because they are getting used to the format of the show, while at the same time flaunting the strict ITV imposed conventions (20points)
"Oh David, you can't say that... when David has sex, he likes to hold his balls..."
That was great! I wish I'd been taping it. "£ o'clock in the morning he called me...."
Yes, I've started watching it too!
Who'd have thought it was on ITV.
sadly next week is the last in the series
dam ITV i wish they would get rid of Wheel of fortune, You've been Framed, Blind date, stars in their eyes and scottish & carlton tv
....emmerdale, Catchphrase, Supermarket Sweep, anything with Vorderman or Denise Welch in it, 'Millionaire'. I could go on all day.
I agree, Baddiel and Skinner have temporarily uplifted the tone of ITV.
The tone was temporarily lifted early in the year when 'At Home With The Braithwaites' was transmitted.
>The tone was temporarily lifted early in the year when 'At Home With The Braithwaites' was transmitted.
I HATED THAT THAT WAS SHITE
Well done!
I'm so pleased you found the time to give us your considered opinion.
Was the man sitting next to the naked bloke Adam Bloom - i caught a glimpse of him near the end and thought it was. Fantstic last show, though.
I didn't see Tuesday's. What was tonights refernce about two men wanting a fight all about?
The streaker- I know it wasn't, but once he put the wig on he had a look of Al Murray.
>I didn't see Tuesday's. What was tonights refernce about two men wanting a fight all about?
Bear with me here, my memory's not that good - B+S were asked if they had ever seen a UFO, to which audience member 1 said he had seen a bolt of electricity between his two index fingers when he had been meditating on an island somewhere. Audience member 2 then proceeded to call 1 a wanker, and assorted names, to which the other replied if you want to meet outside or something similar. Both 1 and 2 looked pissed off.
Someone can probably give you a better explanation than this
"The streaker- I know it wasn't, but once he put the wig on he had a look of Al Murray."
How bizarre - I was going to comment that the one in the audience with red&white wig (not the streaker) looked like Al Murray. The streaker put on a black wig before attempting to streak. I'm sure the streaker was some actor who's been in an advert or something. It was obviously a set-up by the production team that B&S weren't in on.
Earlier on this thread someone commented that it would be easy to sit there and be funny for half a hour - anyone could do it. I think getting the 2 lookalikes out of the audience proved how wrong that idea is.
>

Yes, he did too. Maybe they've cloned him or something.
"Earlier on this thread someone commented that it would be easy to sit there and be

Oh, be fair - they had the sense to just sit there and let B&S do the clever lines. If only some of the other people in the series had got the right idea...

I wasn't having a go at the two lookalikes - I couldn't have done any better. I'm just saying it goes to show how hard it is. It's the ones who are saying "Me and me mates could do that, no problem" that I'm disagreeing with.

Yeah, it was a joke - hence the 'couldn't everyone' part - as i said earlier i'm a bit sarcastic. Maybe

Ah, so it was you was it? Aren't you going to thank me for defending you?
Perhaps you should change your name to PJ sarcasm (like DJ, but differnt, see?)
thank you abc (is this your real name) for helping me.
I really mean this.
No really
Honestly
etc...
No, abc is not my real name, i'm justa huge fan of the early 80's sheffield synth pop combo. I am of course refering to the human league...
>No, abc is not my real name, i'm justa huge fan of the early 80's sheffield synth pop combo.
Can't be many of those left - perhaps next you should go for '80's hard rock groups. Then you can have Def Lepard and err.. well that's it.
