>Is it just me, or is this show crap ?
No it's not just you.
I think most people refer to it as failing miserably.
It's so bad that they have radio 'look-alikes' put together out of staff members.
Whereas this might work on TV, they have overlooked the fact that it's a RADIO show...
With brains like that, it can't be long before Donna Air takes over the Radio One empire...

Cheers Allie - at least its not just me that thinks this !!!!
The question is, who would be a good replacement on the breakfast show? John Peel?
>The question is, who would be a good replacement on the breakfast show? John Peel?
...good question, I haven't a clue. I don't think there is anyone 'good enough' out of the Radio 1 presenters at present... talking of which, I cannot stand that Scott Mills. Where the hell did the BBC get him from ? He is another one who thinks he is so hilarious. He actually comes across as a stupid, up himself pratt - !!!
>The question is, who would be a good replacement on the breakfast show? John Peel?
Kevin Greening would be great.
But I doubt I'll see another good brekkie show DJ (a full-time one anyway) in my lifetime.
Moyles is the best we can hope for - and that is not much since he has been going steadily downhill since he started afternoons.
I will only listen to John Humphries on R4 in the mornings... he occasionally says something funny, which is more than Zoe Ball has ever done.
>I will only listen to John Humphries on R4 in the mornings... he occasionally says something funny, which is more than Zoe Ball has ever done.
...never a truer word spoken !
Yes, I think Chris Moyles would be the best bet, but yes, he has gone downhill recently. Perhaps its all over to Radio 4 then ???!!
Peel would be one choice, although I don't know he'd wake people up.
Maybe it's time to pull Mark & Lard back from the dead time...? pleasepleaseplease?
>Maybe it's time to pull Mark & Lard back from the dead time...? pleasepleaseplease?
ABSOLUTELY.
Maybe we could march on the BBc, with big banners....
>Maybe we could march on the BBc, with big banners....
I'd actually like to see their reaction to that...
We'd make the news.
I really, REALLY would like to hear M&L back on the breakfast show (it'd get me up for once), but I don't think they'd want to, and Radio 1 would never go back on their decision. Surely.
I don't think they appeal enough to what The Corpses call "Plebs".
Glad to see someone slagging off Scott Mills back there. He was bred on the same lab slide as Clive Warren, in a vain attempt to create a fresh batch of Mark Goodiers. R1 seems to have a contract with whoever is churning out these bloodless homunculi, which is bad news for all of us, as that way lies Virgin FM.
A couple of years ago the place where I was working had Virgin on all day long, and for a good couple of months I didn't realise that there were three different DJs in between Evans's breakfast show and the drivetime slot - they were IDENTICAL. God's sake, get some DJs with personality.
(Memo: 'personality' does not just equate with 'shouty', In fact the two are pretty much mutually exclusive.)
Sara Cox has more talent in her little toe than she does in any other part of her body. This, of course, has certain drawbacks. Although her feet move well, the brain always remains redundant when the mouth moves.

They don't want to go back - they never wanted to do breakfast as it put them in a bad mood. According to Simon Garfield's book on Radio 1 (and it is definitely worth reading), they were down to do 4-6pm then Evans resigned, and they were moved, because they'd deputised a couple of times for him. But I think they did a brilliant job - really funny.
>I don't think they appeal enough to what The Corpses call "Plebs".
More like they failed because the tabloids weren't interested in them - they weren't good for Radio 1's "youth element" (whatever that is). They are, after all, in their forties, and I couldn't care less how old they are - but to some people, this matters so much.
Scott Mills, incidentally, came from Heart FM in London (home of Pat Sharp). Enough said?
People I'd listen to at breakfast time:
Mark & Lard (I'd still listen in the unlikely event they went back)
Danny Baker (he really was funny on Radio 5 and GLR)
Chris Morris (it will never happen, but...)
Peter Curran (GLR, plays best records on the radio, anywhere)
Bob McCord (bloke on local radio in Swansea when I was a teenager - used to spend about 20 minutes talking about the weather and traffic news. Astonishingly terrible, but compulsive, you used to wonder what he'd say next. Something about the weather or traffic, usually. Never said anything about the records he was playing or anything. Oddly, I miss him being on.)
Alan Freeman (another one that won't happen now - we've missed the boat)
Arnold Brown & Jerry Sadowitz (one on FM, one on medium wave, depending on what mood you were in)
Lee & Herring!!! (good dynamic for zoo radio)
All right, none are likely, none will woo the punters from Tarrant, but any of 'em would beat Cox or Ball!
>Lee & Herring!!! (good dynamic for zoo radio)
Good idea! In fact it might be an idea to put several comedians of that ilk on - to rotate them about between days. That would be a departure for Radio 1 - although they have had funny DJs doing the brekkie show, they've never had actual comedians.
What about Armando Iannucci, Peter Baynam etc etc?
How about Nick Abbot? He used to have an excellent show on Talk Radio, and I think he's now on Virgin. Though he doesn't get to speak much on there.
Let's face it, there's not much chance of Radio 1 ever getting a more than a couple of decent DJ's at a time. The BBC seem intent on hiring TV celebrities, regardless of what radio skills they don't possess (such as being intereasting or informative), or else filling the schedules with DJ's such as Tim Westwood, who are so wrapped up with the own self-worth that they neglect the fact the audience arn't intereasted in them.
A sorry state of affiars for Radio 1, which will probably never change, since it hasn't so far. You can thank someone like Noel Edmonds or DLT for that.
Or perhaps not.
To be fair to Sara Cox is not in my nature, so I won't start now. This girl is a foil. The BBC gave her Ball's old spot to make Ball look good. Mission Failed. You can't make a DJ out of a sow's ear, even if you do employ a pig.
I have been chased out the Channel 4 forum. Gee will be making this his home for a bit. Why is the R2R forum so stuffy?
