I saw that too, and I had a feelong it would get a mention on this forum - if our American Observer is still around, is that what PBS in the States is really like?If so, where do I sign to receive it!?
National Public Radio is a lot like that, yes. Week long pledge drives, where they'll keep going until they get some unfeasible sum.
I'm donate anything, just GET OFF AIR!
WFYI in Indianapolis (where I am) is a pretty good station. They used to show Red Dwarf, before the local student tv station got rights for it. They also show a good range of "educational" things - and they show Horizon sometimes, too. the last one was something aobut Black Holes. the reception is sadly terrible, so I don't watch it that often - but there is good stuff as lnog as you look for it.
...a terribly long answer answering none of your questions, sorry. I haven't seen "oh do shut up" yet - though BBCAmerica is showing "To The Manor Born"... again. oh, and Vicar of Dibly, 24 hours.
*groan*.
Um... i didn't make a lot of sense there, did I?
I havent yet seen a "pledge drive" on PBS (the TV and radio stations all have different acronyms by area, most confusing. Boston is something like WBLT, which raises a smile...), though I've heard oodles of the things on National Public Radio - the closest you'll ever get to Radio 4 in this country, they seem to co-operate with the World Service for some of their news, though i _could_ be wrong - only listen with half an ear when I'm in the car.
Does that answer it? Or should I continue...?
*audience tries to convey that she should shut up*
*mostly by throwing things*
Ah - so that's what WBLT is - I keep spotting it at the end of programmes the BBC couldn't affort to make on their own - Walking with Dinosaurs, for example.
I thought that was WBGH?
Maybe it is? But they do stuff with WBLT as well - whatever.
I made up WBLT, i think. if i didn't, then I must have forgotten it. It was a mild joke....
That was me.
(blt = bacon, lettuce & tomato, in case...)
No - I'm sure WBLT exists - it's just one of those unfortunate station names like WGBH (GBH may not mean anthing in the US so maybe it's not that unfortunate)-I may be wrong, I'll look it up.

I think it's in Boston - Hang on:
Yeah, check out http://www.wgbh.org/wgbh/index.html
They do a lot of programs in wossit... er... association, thats it... in association with the bbc.
<sigh> yes, like I said two weeks ago :)
sorry.
i'm sloooow.
