The Glass Teat

...was the name for the collected TV reviews written by Harlan Ellison, US sci-fi writer and hack TV scriptwriter, for 'The Los Angeles Free Press', an underground paper during the hippy period in the late 60s.
It is utter genius and anyone who writes about TV should read it. He analyzes and destroys assumptions and conventions about how the news is portrayed, how race is portrayed in cop shows/westerns, how Vietnam/the anti-war movement was covered... there is loads of stuff about US sitcoms (which, then as now, are mostly rubbish) which the corpses should see. Sorry, I read it years ago, and don't have a copy to refer to now, but you all should look out for it.
