Felix Dexter Posted Fri May 12 08:00:48 BST 2000 by Jon

Dear Corpses -
What's your problem with him? He's not over-exposed or over-hyped. That character he did on 'Real McCoy' was funny (one of the few good bits on Fry&Laurie's 'Xmas with the stars', years back), but didn't get his own show. He doesn't just do silly interviews with celebs. So why do you refer to him (in the 11OCS section), as some paradigm of a bad comedian?

Far from over-expose or over-hyped, he's under-rated and under-used. Yes all right, he was on the panel of that late night BBC1 effort a couple of years back, but no-one came out of that looking particularly good. But whether or not you like the material he's done the fact remains that he's an excellent performer who should have been used more than simply cameo roles when the script called for someone black.

He's alright, actually, Felix Dexter. The 'Nathaniel' character was the only funny thing on The Real McCoy anyway.

He was used by lazy newspapers as the token black voice of the 'Ali G is racist' non-debate a while back; however, when questioned on the matter, he said he had nothing against Ali G at all and the whole thing was a media invention/publicity drive for C4.

BY the way, what was the name of that sitcom pilot he did, circa 96? Not Felix Dexter On TV - the one that was essentially a vehicle for the Nathaniel character. Can't remember...
